Description

The PRS SE NF3 is a distinct guitar in the PRS lineup. The heart of this guitar is a trio of PRS Narrowfield pickups, a first for the SE Series. Supporting these pickups is a poplar body, 22-fret bolt-on maple neck, and the choice of either a rosewood or maple fretboard. The SE NF3 is a versatile workhorse guitar that is fun to play and hard to put down. The Narrowfield DD (Deep Dish) “S” pickups are made with taller bobbins to fit more winds and extra metal pieces in between the magnets for a more focused, powerful tone. Anchored with PRS’s patented tremolo, this guitar can bend and flutter with ease. Perfect for rock, blues, gospel, country, or jazz the PRS SE NF3 can punch, cry, lay down, or sing – as you like it.

  • Pretty cool guitar - pickups are going to take getting used to
Color: Gun Metal Grey Style: Maple Fretboard
Like a lot of other people, I got this to try the NF3 pickups. They are little humbuckers, not sure how Paul Smith can say they sound 'exactly like single coils' because they most certainly do not. But they sound good and they buck the hum. Fret ends were super sharp on the treble side up past the 12th fret. I got a set of the PRS SE locking tuners but the tuners that came with this are fine. The nut was not glued in. I got a Leo Jaymz guitar with a loose nut, but expected more from a company that says it inspects its SEs when they come in from Indonesia. Otherwise it seemed set up, though I was able to get the action lower (a plus!) and the electronics and bridge are good quality. Put in a treble bleed - it really make a huge difference as the stock volume pot is almost an on/off switch it drops so fast. Still giving it 5 stars because after I fixed it up it's a really great instrument. ... show more

  • Appalling quality control: sprouted frets, neck asymmetrical /mounted incorrectly, other issues
Color: Ice Blue Metallic Style: Maple Fretboard
Appallingly BAD quality control for PRS. Arrived with badly sprouted and sharp fret ends. The worst is the neck - it's either cut badly or mounted badly/cut asymmetrically. High E string is 7 mm from edge of at fret 21! Low E string is 2.5 mm from edge of same. Action is also very high, 3.5 mm at low E at 12th fret. Volume knob is mounted crookedly and there is no signal when turned lower than 8. Some high frets as well. I'm shocked. I have a PRS SE 24-08 that was very well set up when it arrived - just needed action lowering. Also, was not impressed with the pickups - muffled quality but that may because of the very high action. My old Squier Bullet with cheap Alnico pickups sounds so much better . So much for PRS' vaunted quality control...... ... show more

  • Sometimes buying used pays off.
Color: Pearl White Style: Maple Fretboard
Bought it used here. The frets where sharp, untouched at factory somehow. Knew how to fix it with a Amazon fret file. Now it has amazingly low action. Pickups are different then regular single coils. They take awhile to get used to, that's I wanted, different then fender. Neck great, body is flawless. Thanx to who ever sent it back, got a great deal! ... show more

  • Sounds like the best strat ever!
Color: Metallic Orange Style: Maple Fretboard
Needs locking tuners and a bone nut. Tones are inspiring! Great guitar. If you have dirty hands you may want the dark fretboard. I am a pool repair man and the maple frets are already looking dirty and I’ve only been on it for a couple hours. Excellent guitar

  • Was not "new"
Color: Metallic Orange Style: Rosewood Fretboard
The guitar itself is ok and a neat addition to my collection. But this was not "new" as advertised. I didn't figure that out until i started work on it to upgrade the cheap import wiring and then it was too late to raise the issue. I suspect that it was sold previously, then returned. A trusted luthier advised the finish on the neck had been lightly sanded off. Not sure i'll buy a guitar from Amazon again, though the next day arrival can be quite attractive. Best be sure to thoroughly check the instrument before committing that its a keeper. ... show more

  • GREAT guitar.
Color: Ice Blue Metallic Style: Maple Fretboard
I purchased the Blue metallic with maple fretboard about two weeks ago at the local music store and it’s my first PRS so I didn’t entirely know what to expect. This is the cheapest guitar in my arsenal with most being in the $3,000 range, but I purchased it because I wanted to dive into PRS’s lineup without breaking the bank. After I got it home I let the guitar acclimate to the new found humidity and it helped a lot with the fret ends. I still ended up doing a quick fret polish and file to clean up any sharpness. After this I finally started really playing it. I determined the pickups were a little muddy and wasn’t entirely impressed. I then decided to dive further in and opted to change the strings to something I prefer. Now after a set of fresh strings (9-46), I had to reset the intonation and redo the factory setup to my preference. It took a bit of work but the guitar completely woke up. I am currently preferring it to my go to electric: a 1993 Fender Strat Plus. The neck scale, the shape of the neck, the body shape, and the pickups are all amazing. The pickups are eerily similar to a P90 warmth but with Humbucker silence and Strat/Tele single coil quack. It’s an extremely versatile guitar! I love the satin neck finish with the grey pearloid inlays. The black plastic pick guard and knobs really make these pop. I do plan on going to a lampshade PRS style knob as opposed to the speed knobs. Do not sleep on this guitar! ... show more

  • Huge bang for the buck, incredible pickups
Color: Metallic Orange Style: Rosewood Fretboard
Ignore the naysayers, this one’s a keeper. It’s the cheapest guitar in my collection, but holds its own, and then some. If you don’t know how to lube a nut, or adjust a truss rod, take it to a shop and get it setup. My action is low, and neck almost flat, with no buzz. The pickups are totally silent, and sound absolutely amazing! Don’t hesitate to try this one yourself, you’ll be happy you did. ... show more
