Description

The PRS SE DGT (David Grissom Trem) brings David Grissom’s signature model to the SE Series for the first time. Based on the McCarty platform, the DGT model has been a constant favorite since its introduction in 2007, thanks to Grissom’s deep knowledge of vintage guitars and his painstaking attention to detail. Every feature on the SE DGT has been considered from the neck shape to the fret choice and dressing, from the colors to the pickups and electronics layout. The SE DGT features vintage-voiced humbuckers paired with individual volume controls for each pickup and a push/pull master tone control that taps the humbuckers for sweet, single-coil inspired sounds. This layout puts a lot of control and versatility on tap so you can focus on playing and not the guitar. Additional appointments include a maple top, mahogany back, 22-fret, 25” scale length mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, and bird or moon inlays (inlays are color dependent).

  • Great job Cor-Tek!
Color: Moons Gold
Very nice guitar! Sounds great, plays very well and is great quality for the price. My only complaint is, why can't the good people that design the PRS SE line have Cor-Tek (the manufacturer), recess the control cavities on the rear of all SE guitars?

  • Guitar to fall in love with
Color: Moons Gold
PRS DGT-SE. Super fantastic guitar. The feel, the sound, the controls...You can not stop playing it. In my humble opinion as all PRS instruments, it is of an ultimately best quality instrument. Everything is top notch. It stays in tune. I use it for recording my songs in a studio and I can get wonderful sounds. The fret board is excellent, the pick-ups sound great and have a super sound range. Not too bright. David Grissom had a lot to do with that sound. You have to get used to David's control configuration but more you play better it gets. Neck feels super cool. I love this guitar. ... show more

  • Awesome HB guitar (revised: see end)
Color: Tobacco Sunburst
With so much hype and promotion, I honestly was expecting some disappointment. But I actually have to say this is an excellent guitar. Playability is superb and truly a pleasure. I've owned a PRS basic model 25 yrs ago and I think the standard has improved since then. It's a beautiful guitar. I got the "tobacco" sunburst, but its really more like a "golden" sunburst with the flame maple veneer popping out gold and orangish wood grains. (Great choice for those like me that find the gold top version to resemble a cheap spray paint job). Would have preferred a see through stain on neck and back instead of black. While the "split coil" feature sounds nothing like a single coil, I'm liking the ability to instantly reduce the "hotness" of these pickups without losing much volume. This gives 75% of the gain and basically sounds like a weaker humbucker. It's unclear whether this is a coil tap or a blended parallel split, but it's very functional. Like having two sets of pickups! The fret job was immaculate - even, polished, and burnished ends. No high frets. Came with high action and stiff strings which had to be changed immediately... the 25" scale length is a bit too long to comfortably afford what felt like .11's on this guitar - replaced with .09s. Now the cons: 1. the red tone knobs have to go. That color makes no sense with this guitar and more importantly the numbers on the dial are illegible. I've just ordered these nice gold top hat knobs with CLEAR lucite white on black lettering. Much more functional and matching aesthetic. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MBQ24VN/ref=syn_sd_onsite_mobileweb_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&pd_rd_plhdr=t&th=1) 2. The "blend" middle toggle select position does not seem to sum the 2 volume controls as expected. If only 1 volume knob is all the way down, that position gets no sound for EITHER pickup. Cool if you want to use the toggle as a full cutoff switch - and maybe that's an ADDED feature - not sure yet. 3. Really would like separate tone controls for each pickup. With such hot and bright pickups as these, I need to set both volume and tones independently. Quite a big deal when switching between neck/bridge. I find I have to twiddle the tone each time I switch. I may add an additional tone pot. 4. The volume pots seem to have linear (vs. audio) taper, which means the tone is relatively unaffected when dialing down. With such hot pickups (they are unusually "full" range i.e. bright), I would prefer a greater loss of tone on dialing down volume. 5. The vibrato bar is a bit high off the strings compared to Fender style bars, making it difficult to use without disengaging your picking hand from the strings. 6. Instead of having a single push/pull on the single tone knob to control the "split coil" for both pickups, it would be far more functional to have separate push/pull for each pickup on the volume controls. This would provide 2 additional combos when in pickup blend mode and make for easier switching between for example: neck HB to bridge split. I may do a mod for this. All in all I give this guitar: ***** workmanship/polish ***** beauty **** functionality **** sound/pickups **** hardware components For the price, this is truly a great value guitar. With a few inexpensive mods (knobs and pots) this could be outstanding. EDIT: 18 months later The pickup toggle now giving intermittent issues, not connecting or partial connection in bridge position. I live in a high humidity environment q but have many other electric guitars that have not had issue. I'll have to buy and solder in a replacement.... lowering to 4 stars. ... show more

  • Best Guitar at This Price Range
Color: Moons Gold
Easily one of - if not the best guitar for the price. Has a comfortable and chunky neck, and the pickups sound fantastic. They clean up well and this guitar has the best coil split sound of any guitar I’ve heard thus far. Body is very resonant which I personally enjoy. Can’t go wrong with this one.

  • Fat neck and solidly built guitar
Color: Moons Gold
I bought this new, on sale for $679. It was perfect upon receipt, no need for setup and barely off tuning wise. Props to PRS, the DGT SE does not disapoint. I was looking for a guitar with a neck similar to my yamaha acoustic AC1R neck and this was almost soot on. I found other electric guitar necks too thin, this is nice and fat and comfortable. The pickups are incredible, electronics as well. My friend who bought a epiphone les paul tried it and said it was way better than that guitar. ... show more

  • Best price anywhere.
Color: Tobacco Sunburst
I couldn’t believe the price because PRS makes every dealer sell it for the fixed price. The guitar is amazing and came in perfect shape and playability.

  • Most versatile, but a little tuning issue
Color: Tobacco Sunburst
This is no surprise, but the neck & pickups are what I think makes this guitar outstanding. The neck is fairly chunky, but very comfortable. The pickups are the most articulate humbuckers I've ever heard. The neck in coil tapped mode can be fairly convincing as a Strat sound. I had the gold top, but I thought it was not super attractive, especially with the red volume & tone knobs. I think the Sunburst looks excellent. Still not crazy about the red knobs on it, but I haven't bothered with replacing it. I did block the tremelo since I change tunings from time to time. The tuning stability was pretty good with the floating tremelo. However, I still have some issues with the G string going out of tune. I'm sure it's the cut of the nut. I have sanded the sides of the G string slot a bit, so it's slightly better. I may have to take this to someone to do a full set up one of these days. For what you get, it's a bargain I think. It's the most versatile guitar I own for sure. ... show more
