Description

The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special is a unique offering in the growing PRS SE Series. With a swamp ash body and 22-fret maple neck with maple fretboard, the SE Swamp Ash Special is a fresh face and versatile voice. The 85/15 “S” pickups flank a PRS-Designed AS-01 Single Coil “S” pickup in the middle position. The AS-01 Single Coil features both alnico and steel (hence the name), which adds mass to the pickups helping to create a powerful sound. Paired with a push-pull tone control and 3-way pickup switch, this pickup/electronics package gives players an array of sounds to enjoy, and the addition of PRS’s patented tremolo adds a touch more versatility. The overall tone of the PRS SE Swamp Ash Special offers tight low end, bright but mellow high-end, and a welcome twangy tone that can reach “hot country,” blues, and even jazz territory.

  • Great mid level guitar
Color: Charcoal Style: V1
The guitar is a great mid level guitar. The frets are perfectly dressed. The unique pick up configuration gives you a ton of different sounds. The bolt on neck along with the pick ups gives you a great single code sound that is great for country music. The only negative is that the tuners are not high quality and causes the guitar to not stay in tune. If you upgrade the tuners to locking tuners, it will solve the problem. The swamp ash finish is beautiful. You are getting your moneys worth with this guitar. This is a unique SE. ... show more

  • Workhorse Guitar
Color: Iri Blue Style: V2
I own several PRS SE model guitars. Like all PRS SE models I have played, this is of excellent quality and playability for the price point. It is well balanced and versatile. I use it for a variety band, and it is very adaptable. The swamp ash body feels relatively light, and I love the finish especially with the maple fret board. The neck feels good - this is not a super thin shredder neck; but nor is it chunky. I like 24 frets, but being honest I rarely use the last 2, so a 22 fret works great. Like everything else, the "S" humbucker pickups are well balanced. These are not "high gain" pickups by any means; but they also plenty hot for any kind of rock or metal, unless extremes are the goal. On the clean side, they clean up well, but I don't really use them for clean. That is where that sweet single coil pickup in the middle comes in. It sounds wonderful for the clean work I do. Of course you can also blend it with one of the other two humbuckers. I do not really care that much for the coil tap feature. It works in a pinch, but one of my main reasons for getting this guitar was the single coil, which my others do not have. My only gripe is that this guitar came in poorly set up from the factory. I had not bought through Amazon before, but I have had guitars shipped. My PRS SE Standard came in just fine. This guitar holds tune very well, but oddly the action is a touch high yet there is some extra buzz. It needs a good set up, but still played well enough out of the box. This guitar is a relatively affordable workhorse for the gigging musician, but is priced where hobbiest can enjoy it as well. ... show more

  • Stunning In Every Way!
Color: Charcoal Style: V1
This guitar looks, feels and sounds amazing! Fit and finish are perfect and the colors are beautiful. The frets are smooth and the neck is comfortable and fast. The combination of tonewoods and electronics used in this guitar give it a degree of vesatility I've never heard in one instrument before. It will definitely hold it's own against much higher priced guitars. ... show more

  • Attractive guitar, but lacks in playability out of the box.
Out of the box this PRS Swamp ash guitar was a disappointment. It was not set up even close to where a delivered guitar should be for optimum playability. The action was very high and the truss rod required adjusting since there was a “bow” in the neck. After completely setting up the guitar myself (which required truss rod adjustment, replacing the tuning machines with locking tuners, lowering the action, setting intonation, replacing the strings), I was able to make the guitar much easier to play. I plugged the guitar into an amp and I have to say the tone was better than I expected. The coil tap “pull switch” is a great feature and gives you a nice variety of tones. I was also surprised how well the guitar stayed in tune after using the tremelo bar, however, the locking machines I installed helped somewhat. Overall, it is a nice guitar for the price, but, if you purchase one, you’ll need to have had experience setting up guitars or you will never be happy with it. ... show more

  • PRS fantastic blonde fingerboard
Color: Iri Blue Style: V2
This was my very first PRS. I always wanted a PRS but am a maple fingerboard lover. This is a fantastic guitar. Played beautifully right out of the box. All the controls worked perfectly. Not sure how much I'll use the push pull knob selections. The blonde neck is fantastic. Sounds great. Please check this out. I bought this model from Amazon a little over a week ago. Played it, loved it, until I found the volume knob wasn't working at all. Returned it. Bought another the same day. Received the new one a day early. Love using prime. ... show more

  • Be careful! Nice instrument but ships with defects.
Color: Vintage Sunburst Style: V1
This instrument is truly stunning, but the one I received has several noticeable defects, as shown in the uploaded picture. This guitar was sold and subsequently many times. The most concerning issue is the signed inspection card attached to the area where a piece is missing. This raises serious doubts about the inspection process for these instruments and I just watched a video about how awesome PRS QA process is. Clowns! It's unfortunate, but I’ll be returning it. ... show more

  • Looks as good as it plays
this is my first purchase of an electric PRS (expensive or cheap) and I am extremely happy with it!! It feels great on the hands, and right out of the bag made some really impressive tones. I did pull the humbuckers up slightly on the high strings, but that was the only adjustment needed. This guitar has really had me playing much more electric, which is what I was hoping for! if I did have to nitpick, I would say that it could’ve used a little bit more care on the fret bars. There are a few rough edges, which I filed off. ... show more

  • volume changes due to pickups.
Color: Vintage Sunburst Style: V2
Wonderful guitar. I bought it for the 2 humbuckers and single coil pickup. Had to lower neck humbucker and raise middle due to volume difference, but its pretty close now. I love all the different tones and timbres I can get from the switch positions. Very versatile
