Replaced my old Guest unit which had failed (due to my mistake, running the engine while charging). The old unit used one common ground wire for both batteries. After checking on a couple boat wiring forums, I decided this unit would work better by running a separate ground for each battery. Even though the batteries' grounds are connected at the battery bank, I learned that the individual ground wire for each battery will allow it to monitor and charge each battery individually, to account for different charge levels. That's the theory anyway... I'm still not sure it's correct, but the manual says to have individual +/- for each battery too. So that's what I did, and ran another ground. Other than that installation was pretty easy. I like the charging cycles, IIRC there are 5 "smart" stages, I've been a fan of those smart chargers for years, my batteries seem to last longer with them. The last stage is maintenance, so I'll just leave it connected over the winter. All in all I like it a lot. I'm pretty sure my old Guest unit failed while running and charging simultaneously, I had it for years but this was the first time I'd forgotten to stop charging before running the engine. But I've seen varying opinions on whether that's possible or probable. Regardless, I will never charge and run simultaneously again, just in case. Word to the wise... ... show more

Had previous model bought in 2018. That failed and let my batteries die. We have several power surges in the last year so it may not have been the chargers fault. I bought this new model with battery Reconditioning built in. One battery cams back normally. The second battery would not take a charge. After given the new charger a day to work on it the leds (new, there 5) began to light up one by one. The new charger successfully reconditioned the battery. The battery NOW holds a full charge. Great charger use these on AGM batteries mostly and have installed many - simple, clean looking and work as advertised-they will not charge a dead or super low battery for safety reasons-keep your batteries above 11 volts and it will work great !

This was a replacement for a 2012 model Promariner8. It was a little larger than the old one and I had to drill two more holes, but no problem. It works, charges and maintains the two batteries in my center console bay boat.

This installed in my Bass Tracker boat was the answer to an overnight charge. The 8 amp. Charger is high enough to charge the twin deep cell batteries. Just plug it in to your 120 service and it’s ready to go the next day- all day.
