My son was excited right away because of the bright graphic design. The colors look just like the picture online and the maple deck feels sturdy in the hands. When he first stepped on it, the board had a little natural flex which gave him some comfort. The surface grip kept his shoes from sliding too much, and he mentioned that it felt more stable than the small toy board he had been using before. In the evenings, he rides it around the driveway, and sometimes the neighborhood kids gather to watch. The bearings roll smoothly, so the wheels do not stick or feel heavy. The wheels are easy to pick up speed on smooth pavement, though on rougher sidewalks it can feel a bit bumpy. He has fallen once or twice, but that was more about balance than the board itself. The size, at 31 inches, works well for him as a beginner because it is not too large to carry around, and he can easily tuck it under his arm when walking home. As a parent, I see it as a decent choice for practice and casual fun. It is not a professional board, but it gives him the chance to learn tricks and turns without feeling flimsy.
