The strings torn as i was tighten them I had to buy some new ones that costed $30 dollars and the hair on the bow keeps coming off …

    • cheap strings
Upon receipt, the violin appeared wellmade and of high quality. I play banjo and guitar and am familiar with tuning and string instruments. The strings came unattached. After browsing lots of Google and Youtube, I decided I was ready to attach them and tune them. I slowly turned the running knob which tightens the string, and on the second string I was doing, despite very careful and slow turning, the string popped and broke. Just like the previous reviews warned. Now I have to spend $40+ on decent strings. I wouldn't recommend this unless you take that additional cost into consideration and the deal still turns out to be worth it for you. ... show more

My excitement was quickly squashed upon opening the case for this violin. It looked like someone literally threw all the pieces in the box and sealed it up. All of the strings were just laying on top of the violin. The other parts and components were scattered about the box. This is going to be a little difficult for me to even start using because I will have to watch some tutorials on how to properly string a violin. The violin material feels a bit cheap, not real wood. Some parts were loose in case like a tuning key and one of the screws but I was able to assemble it. No battery is provided (2023) for the electronic tuner. Luckily, I played violin as a kid so this wasn't too bad and I knew how to re-string the violin (as only one was in place). This might be frustrating for a beginner, especially because there is no manual or instructions included. Some tips - score the rosin and make sure to apply generously to the bow or you will not get sound. I did have to overly tighten the bow to get it sturdy enough to play and now after just 2 uses I already have bow strings breaking. The main issue I have is this will not hold a tune. Only 2 out of 4 strings were able to be tuned, the others would not hold, the tuning pegs just kept un-turning themselves immediately. I tried multiple times, tried moving the strings to different pegs and still could not get them to stay in place. This would be incredibly frustrating for a beginner, well, anyone to be fair, but especially for someone that might not realize it's the instrument, not them doing something wrong. ... show more

We got this for my husband to play. It arrives in a case, inside a box, needing the bridge put on, and to be tuned. It took hours to get this to tune correctly. It comes with directions that are clear and easy to understand. It seems to be made ok. The case is canvas and feels sturdy. The bow feels weak. The body itself does seem durable. To test it out we tuned it. It is very hard to tune. We got it to stay in tune long enough to play some, after 2 hours of trying. The bridge slips on the surface, and out of place easily. It will play smoothly enough, but it has needed constant retuning for a few days. We would not buy this again. ... show more
