These are very nice for use in a Nightingale tribute for a nurse honor guard. Placing the battery in the candle can be a little bit of a challenge because they don’t slide open easily but if you take your time and just keep flipping and trying flipping and trying eventually it’ll open. these tend to be expensive and as a volunteer run organization, we watch for sales in order to be able to order them because we give these to the families of nurses that have passed for whom we provide a Nightingale tribute. With the number of tributes, we perform this gets to be rather expensive so the better prices we can get the better for us. ... show more

    • Saving the Florence Nightingale’s Legacy
More and more nursing programs, only allow battery and/or electronic operated lanterns for the celebration of their nursing student’s achievement of completion in their nursing program ceremony. Furthermore, I do understand safety, but not having this part of the nursing program’s ceremony would be shameful and disrespectful to the nursing profession, so I do believe this is a close option to the “real” lantern with candle and flame. It flickers, almost mimicking like a real candle, which allows nursing student’s to have the ability to enjoy this sentimental experience, so nursing program’s do not have to eliminate this part altogether. ... show more

I sent this to a friend of mine,( who became a nurse later in life, in her 40's), when her sister, also a nurse, died after a long and successful career of helping others. I knew her professionally as well as privately, and I admired her and loved her. She was active in professional circles, always a patient activate- always humble. I sent it to honor her- there would be a nurse honor guard at the ceremony, though the lamp would be given to her chldren. (There are a few honor guards, here and there, they always need volunteers, plus funeral directors don't always remember to ask famililes if the decedent was a nurse and desire the honor guard.)     • Not able to open candle to insert battery.
Arrived on time but the candle does not open (as diagram in box shows) Purchased for my mother's funeral. 40 yrs of nursing and this could have been a beautiful display. This candle does not open but came with a battery to insert (but candle does not open). Too busy planning a funeral and mourning the loss of my mom. This was just a real let down. ... show more
