Took more than a few minutes to assemble. Instructions were a little underwritten, however, we got it figured out. The top and bottom pieces of the shoe rack are sturdy (yes I know questionable since it is MDF material) but once assembled, the shoe rack is very sturdy and heavy too. Takes two people to carry. The shoe slots themselves are a little thinner material so don’t go beating them up by trying to shove your shoes into the rack. The slots are a little small. Ladies ballerina flats, sandals, flip flops, ked type shoes fit no problem. However, regular running sneaks require one slot per shoe. Men’s shoes may require the same spacing, one slot per shoe. So when you are looking at this rack to count how many pairs of shoes it will hold, keep in mind, the larger the foot, you will have to count half of the slots. So if this holds 24 pairs (of smaller shoes), you will have 12 pairs (of larger shoes). Boots do not fit in this shoe rack either. Even though it sounds like I am pointing out the limitations to this product, I actually think for the price (purchased during a holiday sale) it’s decent quality. Looks classy and clean in a light painted room or closet. The plus side to this long shoe rack is that you can convert the top into a bench or hold extra storage on top. Would recommend to persons needing shoe storage. I was skeptical at first when purchasing, but I actually really like the product. This was pretty easy to put together. Heavy box. Only took me 30 minutes give or take. Nice quality. It looks good and serves its purpose. Pair of sneakers fit easily. If you are trying to fit boots and what not you may run into a problem. The value for the money is great. Storage capacity is excellent. Much much better than the door hanger I bought before this. It took about a week to receive this bench. The box is very heavy when it arrives. All parts were there, everything looked perfect and the directions were great. I would estimate it took my husband 45 minutes to an hour to assemble this. He did not have any problems with assembly. The product is excellent. It was the perfect height, width, and length to fit in my entryway. It does not look cheap and it is functional. I personally feel the sizes of the cubbies are great. I feel there is a *slight* misrepresentation with the photo that is displayed. The top row cubbies are slightly smaller than the others are. In the photo, it gives the impression that all cubbies are the same dimension and this is not true. However, for me, this was not a huge issue because I have a toddler and his shoes fit perfectly in the smaller top row. I am able to fit one pair of my shoes in one cubby.My husband has very large work boots and he does need to put one shoe in one cubby for his work boots. My teenage son is able to put both of his shoes in one cubby. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. It's nice having a functional entryway where we can sit on the bench to put on our shoes, but it also serves as a shoe organizer and looks nice. EDIT 5/30/2013: Per another consumer's response, I need to revise the post that, in fact, the cubbies are the same size. In an error, when installing the product, the cubbies were installed up-side down, making the top row, incorrectly smaller, than the bottom row. This bench looks and great and is the add to my closet to keep my shoes organized and up off the floor. The slots are on the smaller size, if you want this for mens shoes you'll need one slot per shoe vs a pair. I have small feet so I had no issues with flats or sneakers fitting. I have bought several shoe racks in the past few years, with none of them working out. This time I wanted to spend some extra money and get something I am hoping to last for years. I really wanted something made of solid wood that looked EXACTLY like this, but I cannot find anything like it on the market. I really wanted something to sit behind my sofa to catch all the shoes and put a basket on top to catch all the "pocket junk" from when my husband comes in the door and cleans his pocket. It always ends up on the counter, the bookshelf, etc. So far, adding a basket to catch all his pocket goods has been a blessing! I live in an apartment so I am going to add a table lamp to this as well since it sits just inside my front door to make it triple purpose! All you need to put this to get is a hammer and Philip's screwdriver. I would also recommend wood glue, personally. Before nailing the backing onto the piece, put a very thin line of glue, put the backing in place, then nail. It just prevents people from pushing the backing through the nails. Although, the backing is actually really thick unlike more assembly-required furniture items so I do not foresee this being a problem but with boys I always take the precaution. As for the customer packaging and customer service. The original packaging likely needs more TLC and more rethinking. It would save the company money and customers would be happier. I suggest they switch shippers as well. It was shipped via UPS and specifically says that it needs team lift. There were actually 2 UPS stickers that said team lift required. However, there was only 1 man that delivered it to us. We live in an upstairs apartment in a gated community. He parked outside of our gated community and walked it in and up the stairs all on his own. It weighs 58 lbs not including any packaging according to Amazon. The box was damaged on the ends. Upon opening the box, 4 of the parts were considerably damaged, including the corner completely broken off the top piece. On the assembly instructions there is a Customer Service number to call for issues. I have to say, for those who are uppity about needing to press numbers and such, there is no need for that. I was directly connected with a sweet woman who asked me my name and was able to look up my order. She asked what pieces were damaged. She told me it would take a few days to process, but the pieces would be in the mail. I received them. 9 days later. The box was again damaged on the ends by UPS, but there was a LOT better packaging and the pieces were very secure in the box and surrounded by some vacuum sealed foam stuff. Everything was perfect and I assembled easily. Their Customer Service definitely deserves props. It is really hard to find a company, especially online companies with excellent customer service. ... show more
