Wish I had not waited so long to buy this square. It is perfect. There are no tack welds along the edge so the square fit is tight. The ruler extension is rigid and locks into place. The edges are clean and the overall builders solid. Impressive. The pencil comes with thick lead and really is a welcome bonus. Five stars plus for this product.

To easy bent but love it

I already have some rafter squares of different sizes, but this one stands above the rest. Some reasons why... ▪ Easy to read The high contrast, black (or orange for the ruler) with white lettering is easy to read. ▪ Robust construction Take a look at my comparison pic between this and a 12-inch Empire-branded square. The metal on this is significantly thicker. Since it's aluminum, it's not heavy, but if feels solid. ▪ Foldable ruler The movement on the ruler is tight in a good way… Although it moves smoothly, it has a good amount of friction to hold it at the chosen angle. You can get set it at the desired angle and not worry about it moving accidentally. The brass screw can also provide additional hold if you are using it fully extended at the 12-inch length. ▪ Bonus pencil I didn't order this for the mechanical pencil - but it is a good pencil for marking measurements on rough lumber. It has a large, 2mm thick pencil lead and comes with 8 more in a little tube holder. I have a few other 2mm mechanical pencils, and I've paid anywhere from $8 to $20+ for those… I would rank the pencil somewhere in the middle them. I just started using this square, but so far I'm happy with the ruler and currently using it for capturing angles and marking tiles for a bathroom project I'm working on. I almost didn't get this since I probably have enough squares lying around, but I'm glad I did. This is my new go-to square.
