  • GREAT book for anyone big into modifying cars.
For the average shade tree mechanic like myself it's amazing to look at a race car and see all the fancy fittings and clamps and other little bits that separate an OK build from a great one. The author jumps right in and brings up topics that you don't hear people in the car modding community talk about much (a lot of people lust after AN fittings but half of them don't know what the sizes mean). The author gives you pretty much all the information you need to select and purchase the parts you'll need to take your car that extra step. A lot of the practices are pulled from the aviation industry, but why shouldn't they be? if it's good enough for a plane it's even better for a performance car. This book is a wonderful reference in my opinion. and it shows that with just a little bit of thinking and some simple parts and tools you can really take your car (or bike) to the next level. he has example projects in the book that walk you through his process on his car. I've seen many a misused zip-tie, many a badly routed hose, and components mounted in ways that scare me. This book will show you the right way. and while it may be a little more expensive and take a little more time up front, it gives you the confidence that your car will hold together and run properly no matter what you throw at it. I'll say it just once more... If you build or modify cars... pick this one up. ... show more

  • This book is for builders and restorers going beyond the normal build and repair schedule
I can blame this purchase on my 2005 BMW 325. I purchased this book because I was so mad when the plastic parts began leaking either water or PCV gases. After a $730 bill to replace the radiator overflow tank that had a small 1/4 leak. They found the PCV hose (another hard plastic piece) had a leak and would cost $420 to repair. I decided maybe I needed to learn more about hoses and fittings so I could replace the plastic with good solid metal hoses and other metal parts. The plastic leaking PCV hose lead me to AN hoses used on race car engines. That lead me to this book. I confess I read this book in one sitting. It is well written and fits in with my hot rod racing fetish. Reading this book opened up a new view on design and engineering. Gee - I can replace my cheap degradable parts with hoses engineered for airplanes where failure is not an option. Even better the AN hoses cost less than the cheap plastic parts from BMW. If making your car or motorcycle more bullet proof or you want to mod your current car to a higher standard - this book is for you. If you are not open to that kind of work and want to pay your auto shop a bundle of money to replace OEM part with the same cheap plastic OEM parts - well it is your car and your money. ... show more

  • Content Free
I just got this in the mail, and I'm sending it right back. This book is not about fabrication at all, and only marginally about assembly. It's really just a picture book of nuts, bolts, clamps and AN fasteners. There is a section on safety wiring, and two or three "fabrication" demos -- which are just drilling holes in flat metal. Save your money. If you don't have Ron Fournier's books, get them. This is useless. ... show more

  • Really basic stuff and not much, if anything, that's motorcycle specific.
I share the same sentiment as the other low raters. It's extremely novice, and covered so little that related to motorcycles, that it's pretty much useless to me. There was really nothing that I'd call "motorcycle specific" in the book. I'd have given it a lower rating, but its saving grace is that it may actually be useful for some automotive customizers. ... show more
