The external gear on the planetary gear is secured with four small aluminum tabs. If the force is exceeded for even an instant, the aluminum tabs break and the load drops. This is dangerous and there is no way to repair it. The entire aluminum housing would have to be changed. The rest of the hoist is rugged. But, the one weak point makes the hoist useless.

Winch, mounting hardware and remote(s) have been great. I use it to pic up the front end of my lawn mower tractor (larger residential John Deere) to do oil changes and blade replacements. It doesn't struggle at all. I've used it to upright fallen trees whose root systems were compromised due to erosion (along with force multiplying techniques). Like others have said, it takes a moment to fully energize, but thats not a big deal. Double eye loop that came with it is trash, poor stitching, non-existent loop protection, etc. I do wish it had a free spool option, as it moved pretty slow (about a 1 per 2 second) in either direction. A great low cost option if you need one. One of those things that pays for itself the first time you use it (okay, maybe the second time).
