I got this for my granddaughter to play with. She loves all kinds of crafts, and I thought this would be a fun activity for her to do. I stand by thinking this is a fun craft, but this pottery wheel is more frustrating than it is fun. The clay makes the wheel wobble - you can't use a reasonable amount of pressure to shape anything without the wheel slowing down. And I mean s-l-o-w. The clay included in the kit was really wet and gross, so we tried a different pottery clay. It was better, but not by much. (And I know that was good clay.) I had high hopes for this pottery wheel - and it does come with some good tools. But my granddaughter (who is almost 7 but very artistic) and I got frustrated with it. There is no way to make anything with it - we wound up just playing with the second clay we tried, and she made some animals out of it - without the use of the wheel. I told her that next time, we would try with more water - maybe that will help. Kind of doubtful, but we'll try. I hate to give up on a toy that could be so cool.

My 11 year old son did this project by himself. I was not sure he would be interested in pottery but he definitely enjoyed making this clay piece. There was a definite fairly steep learning curve and he says it took him about an hour to make it. I went ahead and patched it up with some of the leftover clay before it dried. It actually came out pretty well. I would say definitely don't expect it to look like the photos and you should be satisfied with proper expectations. It did take about 3 days to fully dry with the air dry clay before he could paint it. All in all I think it is pretty cool. He expects he can do even better with the second included batch of clay. Yes a plug would have been nicer and probably stronger than batteries.

My daughter has just started going to a pottery studio to learn how to make pottery. I knew going in that this was more of a 'toy' option than a serious wheel so expectations were very reasonable. I figured that if she couldn't use it (I thought just for practicing) one of my nieces might enjoy playing with it. Unfortunately my daughter can't use it even for practicing, it doesn't have the sturdy capacity for her purposes. It's ok as a toy but requires a very (very) light touch which my young nieces (9 & 11) don't really have and so far it's proven more frustrating than useful. I gave it an average rating (3 stars) possibly more because I 'want' it to be fun/useful/cool and hope we can figure it out so we get more enjoyment from it. As we get the hang of it, if our experience changes I'll update the review but for now I'd say proceed w/ caution.

This is definitely a toy not a serious wheel. It's light weight so there's a learning curve. It also only takes batteries that which tend to die quickly. Is it fun for kids who just want to play around? Probably but I wouldn't get it for a kid who is seriously interested in learning pottery.

This is such a fun activity for kids, especially for beginners. My son has been wanting to do pottery spinning for a long time and I have had the hardest time finding a kit for him to begin with- this came in, in a pinch and has been so much fun and learning! Has everything you need to get started and has been a fun learning experience. Easy to get set up and get started. I would definitely recommend this, as it could also make a great gift!

We disliked the entire machine, cheap! Light weight! When you put the clay on wheel the weight of clay stops the wheel. Garbage to me and my Grandkids! I want to toss in garbage!
