I use these to help smooth out surfaces and the different shapes and stiffness is very useful. I can make it work for both concave and convex forms and detail areas as well. In the photo I have the ribs organized by flexibility. It’s a practical range of flexibility options to choose from. If you know you only need one type that works for you then this would be overkill.

I am a beginner potter, taking a class and learning the skill. I am so excited to use these ribs. It’s a great set that I will be able to use to shape walls while throwing. I’m also looking forward to being able to experiment with adding unique textures to my pieces, as there are a lot of options with these ribs! I also appreciate the holes, which will make it easy to hang them for storage. I did notice something that could potentially make one of the ribs unusable. It’s subtle, but I believe the edge shown in the picture is supposed to be smooth and there is an uneven spot. I think this would show up on your piece if you use this for throwing. However, as I said, I’m a beginner so it might could be buffed out. Just something to be aware of.

I got the 4 piece set. It comes with four pieces, but there are 2-3 different designs on each one. Firm and withholds well to the pressure of shaping clay on the wheel. They are wood, so be sure to wash and dry after each use!

I really like how soft these are. Often I find really stiff ribs and was really happy when these came in. Very soft and bendy but still have a nice edge on them for clearing slip and shaping. Recommended.

Most ribs are color coded and tell you there firmness but these all just seem to be soft. they have sharper edges then the leading brand name toles do like Garrity tools. They are just ok for me and what I need them for.

My disclaimer is that I am a beginning ceramics student. So I can only comment on these tools as they apply to someone who is just learning how to use them. My skills are not yet developed enough to be able to tell if these tools have any shortcomings. They look and feel just as good as my teacher’s tools and they are helping me to learn how to shape pots differently on the wheel

I don't use these for ceramics so much as smudge painting, and they work reasonably well for that. Accordingly, these can be niche tools but invaluable when required.
