I use this portable exhaust fan in the garage to move smoke and odor out of the garage. I also use it to move fresh outdoor air into the garage. The fan is small but quite powerful. The only thing I don't like is that this thing is loud.

I like the design of this portable range hood. The package came with an 8 inch exhaust fan, a stand that need to be assembled to the fan, four thin rubber pads for the stand, and 10 carbon filters. It took a minute to secure the stand to the fan using the two side screws. The power cable has a built-in on/off switch. When I first plug in and turn it on, the fan make a clunk noise and not running. I realized that the front screw on the handle is too long and blocked the fan blade. It is obvious that the manufacture never tested the fan after assembly, very poor quality control. If they did, they would have known and correct the issue before sending it out. To fix this problem, I remove the four screws that were holding the metal grill to expose the fan. Then unscrew the front screw and flip it around (see 2nd to last picture). This will give enough clearance for the fan to turn freely. Reassembled everything and it worked fine after that. Another issue is that the fan comes with carbon filter the there nothing to secure this filter other than pushing it under the four screws. I've tested the noise level with the fan and it's about 80-82 dB.

I recently got an induction cooktop for use in my kitchen and needed something better than our over-the-range hood to manage smoke/odors from cooking. This portable exhaust fan exceeded all my expectations as it's extremely powerful, and also somewhat loud due to the tremendous airflow (1300 cubic meters/hour per the label), and very effective at capturing and filtering the surrounding air. The carbon filter pad attaches to the front by sliding under the four nuts on the housing and the air movement ensures it stays put during operation. The all-metal blade and housing construction is very robust and the only assembly required is to attach the fan housing to the curved stand with a pair of tightening knobs that double as the way to adjust the angle of the fan to control the ducting. It comes with a set of 4 foam 'feet' that slip over the legs of the stand to prevent movement/vibration and it's rock-steady with those in place. The carrying handle is comfortable and sturdy making it easy to move it around or carry and the length of the power cord gives you a lot of flexibility both in the kitchen or if used in a workbench/garage setting. The carbon filter pads are relatively thin and only time will tell how quickly they will become clogged and/or lose their effectiveness but my first run with them while cooking a burger on my cooktop proved it to live up to the hype and more when it came to odor capture and air filtration.

I replaced a downdraft range with a standard, and found the lighted range hood that is installed isn't adequate to remove cooking odors and steam. I saw this fan, and thought it may be worth a try. Unfortunately, the unit that I received has an imbalanced fan that scrapes the side of the housing and makes a terrible noise. I managed to bend the blade and used it for one cooking session. The filters just kind of stick on the intake side of the fan under the guard screws, which is kind of cheesy, but it does catch a lot of moisture. The fan also moves enough air to be effective at venting, but the bent blade makes it impractical to use. If you get a fan that doesn't hit the side of the housing, I would think it would work pretty well for kitchen odors. It would also serve well for welding or anywhere that needs fume or smoke venting in a non explosive environment. They also need to come up with a way to attach the filters that is better than the one they have now. Back to the drawing board for this product...
