  • Keeps me informed of my fitness progress
At the beginning of the COVID lockdown I was fortunate enough to locate a good deal on a new Bowflex Max Trainer M5 on Amazon. But the chest strap HRM was crappy. I then got a Polar H10 HRM chest strap, which was awesome, and exposed me to the online Polar tracking software which is even more awesome. This then prompted me to get this Grit X watch where I could add sleep monitoring and have a more full view of my calorie exertion. For my needs was likely overkill, but wanted a fitness watch with an always on display, I was sold on the Polar ecosystem and this is just a darn good-looking watch. After 3 weeks with this watch I'm very pleased. I like the extended battery life if I were to travel for work (but I have not been), but recharging the watch daily as I read my Polar Flow app takes about 15 minutes or less. I knew before buying this that the HRM function would not be as good as a chest strap. I use the chest strap for my HIIT training when it is important to get real-time results as I approach my heart beat max. The pairing of the watch and chest strap is automatic, look for the circle around the heart rate to turn from green to blue. But I take walks with my dog and longer walks with my wife and despite my living near a country border a block from a large lake my watch has had no issues tracking distance and mapping out routes I have taken. The sleep results seem to be pretty accurate as well. I like the watch face data options and I frequently keep it on the 3 hour weather forecast, which works well. While many have added the "COVID 15" I've actually lost over 15 pounds over the past 2 months. I'm in my 50's but my goal is to get back to my high school weight, so am looking to lose another 40 pounds over the next 9 months. For me, being old and overweight were 2 things I did not want when looking at COVID morbidity statistics, but now between my fitness and diet focus (which I had never done before) I really think I have created a very positive life style change for myself. I added some Barton quick release watch bands and they have worked real well and have added further watch versatility. ... show more

  • Polar Nailed The Endurance/Adventure Product Category With This One!
The Grit X is the perfect combination of functionality, battery life, and weight. As a trail runner, mountain biker, and ski mountaineer, I have struggled to find a product that blends these three characteristics appropriately until now. My priorities are: 1. Accurate GPS tracking and elevation 2. Battery Life (minimum 40 hours activity tracking) 3. Accurate Heart Rate 4. Lightweight & Durable The Grit X excels in all of these categories. Its wrist based heart rate is the best I have experienced, and is tightly aligned with my chest strap measurements. The GPS tracking and elevation was flawless even when running in the Boulder foothills where many GPS units struggle due to the proximity to steep slabs and cliff faces. Battery life has proven to be excellent, and it is much lighter than all of its competitors with similar battery life. It is light enough that you do not experience any wrist bruising when riding technical mountain bike trails, yet durable enough to not be concerned about taking it on a fourth or fifth class scramble. When you combine this with all of the standard Polar Heart Rate features, Hill Splitter, Fueling Reminders and Komoot Navigation support features, it is truly the product segment leader. You will be extremely pleased with your purchase of the Polar Grit X! ... show more

  • The perfect tool
As a competitive Crossfit athlete and mountain climber, I'm looking for the best gear that will give me an edge in both. The Polar Grit X, so far, is proving to fit the bill. Aesthetically it's a great piece. I've taken to wearing it all the time, and the battery life is great. Once a week charge and I'm good to go. One of the challenges I face with my two preferred sports is that Crossfit is very glycolytic (carb) intensive, and peak bagging is much more oxidative. Balancing these two nutrition demands for different training days and events is hard. I've been playing with the Fuelwise feature on the watch and it's really insightful. With the current state of the world, I haven't been able to put the hillsplitter feature to the test yet, but I'm looking forward to tracking performance on hill repeats as well as long climbs. It has all the features of my Polar Vantage that have been great for my training...with the added outdoor features as well. And it's a Polar, so the HR monitoring is the best I've found. I'm looking forward to this year's training and results and the additional insights gleaned from my new Polar Grit X. ... show more

  • Full featured.
Does everything I am looking for in a fitness watch. The app and web program display the info in ways you can use to help your training and everyday activity. I have used Polar product before and still find them excellent. From my point of view I recommend the Gritx. Do a lot of research (google, youtube )to find what kind of watch will suit you best. Even if you choose another brand you will glad for your time spent searching. ... show more

  • 5 days from Fully charged to 'Battery Low Charge Me'
I've been sold on Polar since the days of Polar Personal Trainer. i enjoy their products and love the Flow web service. This product lives up to most of the hype. I would purchase it again without a second thought. The only thing that concerns me is the battery life. It advertises ultra-long life... not so much. I charged it for the first time Monday evening 22 Jun. I ran a total of 2 1/2 hours, tracking GPS ~ 1 1/2 hours of that, and using an H10 HRM for all of it. Saturday evening 27 Jun I got a low battery warning. Ouch. Even my 3 year old M430 with a warn out battery gets over a week. I would buy it again, but the short battery life is a bit concerning. I live in a hilly region. The barometric altimeter and improved GPS accuracy (relative to my previous polar device) are extremely useful. 3 stars strictly for battery life concerns. There are other minor annoyances, but they are probably due to me adjusting to new tech after having developed a fondness and familiarity with my old Polar device. Luckily, the buttonology is very similar. ... show more

  • Polar Grit review- 5 star prduct
I’ve been a Polar user since the 90s. I’m also a tech nerd that loves watches. So naturally I was excited to see this new Grit X and purchased it straight away. I mostly mountain bike and swim now when working out outside, so a strong and rugged watch appeals to me ( I unfortunately do go down time to time). First impressions of this watch is that it is very aesthetically impressive. The new big metal buttons and large touch display are a welcome feature. I wear full finger gloves so its nice to be able to easily find the buttons on the go. Watch is comfortable too and noticeably lighter than another brand GPS watch I own. Here are my favorite features of this watch Optical HR sensor. It is extremely accurate. I ride my bike on a smart trainer 2-3 days a week during winter/spring, using the Zwift app. I have a Polar H9 heart rate strap paired to the Zwift app. I can pair this to the Grit X, but did not detect any delta between the HR strap and the optical. On both rides, at various intensities I never saw more than a 1-2 beat delta between the two. Very cool as I like to see my HR, but don’t like to always wear a strap while mountain biking. Hill Splitter. This is a welcome feature for anyone that likes to do hill repeats. No input needed. It senses your ascent, and automatically counts your repeats for you as well as the distance and time of ascent and decent. This worked great two days ago on hill repeat workout on my road bike. This is fun and convenient feature. Screen display and touch features. I like the new display. Very clear and just bright enough. Of course easy to light up with the top left button. I have it on the weather screen all the time. Nice to have winds and temperature right in view. Route guidance. This was something I did not use a watch for until now, but very comfortable using now with the Grit X. I live in Bend Oregon where we have a plethora of trails to explore. If you want an effective way to find a prescribed route, this watch makes it very simple. You will easily stay on your trail/road and know when to turn. Battery life. I did three loooooong workouts in 2 days, had the optical HR, GPS etc. on continuous and still had tons of juice remaining went to charge it. I love all the other features such as swim metrics, sleep stages, and nightly recharge. Just started to use FitSpark and I’ll edit this review after I use it for a few weeks, but looks like another great training tool. All in all this is another great watch from Polar. This watch can do it all and more than my other brand GPS bike computer. It is a personal coach/trainer on your wrist along with the Polar Flow app, and the durability of a G-Shock. I highly recommend this sport watch. 5 Stars. ... show more

  • Mine lasted two years before crashing
Good watch but mine crashed after two years of light use. I think a $500 watch should last longer. I will not buy another.

  • Durable and great looking watch with long battery life and sleep tracking Durable and great looking watch with long battery life and sleep tracking
The main feature of Grit that attracts me was battery life. However, when I received it, I figured out that many other features are making my life more comfortable as well—for example - buttons. Grit comes with four buttons - lock/light, back, forward, and start/stop exercise. It is enough to use the watch without the touch screen. I used to follow training benefits via the Polar Flow app, but with Grit, I have them on the screen as well. Synchronization to polar flow app done in the background, I do not need to do manual sync after each set of exercises. Sleep tracking functionality is fantastic as usual; however it seems that pulse sensors hardware got changed ( if you compare them to Ignite ). Overall I would highly recommend Grit X, which is a highly durable and good looking watch. ... show more
