Love this instrument. Because of its hexagonal construction you can actually do slaps if you put the strap down around your waist (if you wear it around your neck the strap gets in the way). I purchased this to add to my collection of drum circle instruments. It's a fun little device, and good quality for the low price point. The snare side is very responsive! I've had other snare drums where you must strike very hard to hear the snare action, but this one responds with just light finger strikes. Fantastic. Also, the snare is located in an area that is possible to service, if it ever needs repair. Several other travel cajon designs hide the snare wires so deeply that they're inaccessible without destroying part of the drum. ... show more

This is a really cool portable cajon and my daughter has now commandeered it so I don't know if I will ever see it again. Really does have different sound between the two sides. The included strap lets you move around while playing and really adds to the fun.

This is a really nice quality drum. It has a very nice smooth finish on all sides and feels nice to the touch. I experimented with it and found that it gives a really nice resonant sound when I use the rubber mallets that came with a steel tongue drum that I have. Placing it on different surfaces also results in different sounds. If you want it to resonate more, place it on a wooden surface like a table as it helps to carry the sound. You can also drum with your bare hands, but I like the sound with the rubber mallets better. It sounds different with a wooden mallet/drumstick. I think it's a versatile instrument, you can get different sounds out of it depending on how you play it. The snare has a nice raspy sound. It's really light and portable so you can take it on trips. It's also a really nice size, this is not a toy instrument. It also has a nice design that where you can use it as a display piece at home when you are not using it.     • Absolutely beautiful and such a unique gift
When I saw this item, I knew that I needed to get it for my dad. I can't wait to give it to him! He's very interested in both genealogy and music, and this drum marries the two of those things perfectly together and will look great in his office. He has a large bookcase with binders for each of his ancestral families, and there is the perfect spot on the wall to hang this drum. The sound is really neat, and I love how it's designed to have two different tones come from the roots of the tree and the leaves. That's very clever. I bought this more as a conversation piece and so I'd have an instrument when hanging out with my uber musical sister's family. My BIL was actually a little jealous and impressed by the sound. So semi professional musician test passed. Their kids loved it so much I left it with them. I'm almost had a enough beat once to do the 90's sophomore bouncing, i.e. I have no ear for tone and maybe able to keep a beat if you literally bounce the whole room. So was glad it sounded fine to people that could tell. But, besides that I just really liked the way it looks. So, I'm glad I could leave something that looks nice and was entertaining for my sister's family to play with. ... show more
