I bought this because it was a great deal and price. The SSD works perfectly in the PS5. This heatsink obviously won't work but the PNY XLR8 NVMe SSD is awesome. If you see a deal on it or a version without heatsink, snatch it up for your PS5.

Fit over the WD SSD I added to my PS5 perfectly. The PS3 recognized it and formatted the drive quickly. I have had zero issues with any overheating or any thermal throttling. Super easy to install and is super fast!

While plenty fast, this is not going to be the fastest in the world. Those comments never age well. I've posted a DiskMark to show what the speed is after two months of daily use. It is quite close to the speed advertised for read, but the write speed it pretty far off being close to 1gb under the advertised speed. I have other SSDs from Samsung and Silicon Power, and this one from PNY is the only one pretty far off the advertised speeds. My 1 tb Silicon Power NVME was only 50mb off on read and 100mb off on write after a few months of use. If the read speeds were closer to the advertised totals (even within 300mb) I would not have gigged them for a star. However, even though it is pretty far off on write speed, the overall user experience is not impacted very much and it is still a pretty dang fast SSD. Given the other reviewers posting their DiskMark scores, it does appear there is quite a bit of silicon lottery involved with the total performance you may receive. ... show more

This review is concerning the NVME with the heatsink. This NVME is surprisingly fast, meeting the listed specs, while also keeping very cool which I was a bit hesitant about since PNY is okay but not exactly known to lead in the high end market. It keeps well below 50c, usually around low 40c when benched heavily. One word of advice is to make sure you have clearance for the large heatsink where your NVME slot is located at because it is a fairly large heatsink. ... show more

**** Update *** - Clarification - bought the whole PNY kit - SSD & Heatsink - I’m thinking & this just my humble opinion - the reviews r saying the product died shortly after buying - 99.9% sure it’s due to heat - M.2’s as a whole run crazy hot - Dell put the M.2 connector directly in front of the case fan so the M.2 is cooled while the R-10 is running. On my MacPro the other PNY has a thin layer cool cover cause of case clearance & the entire bottom cover of the MacPro acts as a giant heat sink. Cooling is everything…. - Installed in a Dell R-10 & the thing boots up incredibly FAST - absolutely NO issues with storage gaps / write or read faults etc - just another GREAT product from PNY - ... show more

This replacement SSD cover is a perfect fit on my disc-edition PS5 and is clearly superior to the PS5's stock plate (when using an M.2 drive without its own heatsink), but the cooling performance could have been even better. The heatsink/cover consists of a four-layer sandwich: Thermal pad in contact with your SSD, thick aluminum heat-transfer block (silver), ribbed aluminum heatsink (black), and decorative metal top plate. It looks nice, but that hardly matters after you put the console's plastic covers back on. The design results in some missed opportunities for better cooling. The heat-transfer block and outer heatsink make limited contact due to channels cut into the block, as well as the lack of any thermal grease/pad between those parts. In addition, the decorative top plate limits airflow over the heatsink fins, and its sticky adhesive underside may trap dust inside the air channels. All said, I'd rate this heatsink 4 stars. It gets the job done and is a definite improvement over stock, but there's potential cooling performance being left on the table. ... show more
