  • Excellent quality buck power supply with fully tinned wires (boat cable)
Style: 1-Pack
Review of ”PlusRoc Waterproof 12V/24V to 5V 5A Step Down Converter, 25W DC-DC Buck Converter...": (Please refer to my reviewing guidelines at the bottom of the page). We live on our 52' Trawler 100% of the time and anchor out and travel 99% of the time. We use these buck converters connected to 4 port USB outlets (that I built, see photo) around the boat to power 5v DC fans and USB gadgets. It seems often that we come up with a use for another one so I ordered this when it became available. This is a very nice version of the buck converter in that it not only meets the output specs (as others have shown in photos), it is very well made with high quality tinned wires. Tinned wire, commonly referred to as "Boat Cable" is very resistant to corrosion and highly important for use on a boat because of the corrosive environment a boat is normally in-- especially if in saltwater. The manufacturer should add this feature to their ad because it is a very important feature for boaters or anyone that wants to use this in an outdoor environment. I've done a bit of market research on Amazon for this specific type of product and find that the current price of $10 is just into the higher side of average for a single unit on the Amazon market. But the fact that it has high quality tinned wires makes it a good value for that price and is why I'm assigning 5 stars. My responsibility as an Amazon Vine Reviewer: Considering the Amazon rules/regulations for being a Vine Member It is obvious that it is very important to Amazon that the person doing the review has indeed inspected, tested, used the product as well as being aware of the competitive situation of the market segment. This is so it can be fairly compared and reviewed whether good, bad, average, or anywhere in all of the grey area between. One thing that I wish were better defined by Amazon is exactly what each star should represent from 1 to 5 so that every Vine member would use the same guide in that regard. So, to let you know the guide that I use, I include it as follows: I always start off considering that average is 3 stars, and an average rating to me is: The product was correctly represented in the ad. The manufacturing quality is as expected. The product performed as intended. The product operating/user guide if needed is helpful. The product is priced accordingly. Then after inspection, measuring, testing, using, wearing, or whatever is required I add or subtract from the average as follows: Subject to additional stars: Additional product features not expected that are useful. Manufacturing quality/performance above what was stated or expected. Included guides and/or useful information that is beyond the norm. Product pricing highly competitive for a superior product. Subject to fewer stars: The product was misrepresented in the ad. Manufacturing quality/performance below what was stated or expected. No useful guide or understandable user information when required. Product pricing is on the high side considering quality, features, or the market. I hope this review helps you while making your purchase decision. all the best, dr ... show more

  • Reliable, Waterproof, and Perfect for DIY Projects – Works Like a Charm!
Style: 1-Pack
Packaging and First Impressions The converter arrives in a small anti-static bag with no extra fluff—just the module and a tiny instruction card. It’s compact (about the size of a matchbox) and fully potted in black epoxy, which gives it a rugged, professional look. The open wires are pre-stripped and clearly labeled: Input (Red +, Black -), Output (Black -, Yellow +). Wire length is generous at around 6 inches each, making soldering or connectors easy. The mounting ears with screw holes are a nice touch for permanent installs. Overall, it feels solid and truly waterproof. Ease of Use Installation couldn’t be simpler: Connect red and black to your 12V or 24V source, yellow and black to your 5V device, and you’re done. No soldering required if you use quick-connects or wire nuts. I appreciated the clear polarity markings—no guessing which black wire is which. It starts working instantly with no switches or setup. For my car project, I zip-tied it under the dash; on the motorcycle, I tucked it inside the fairing. The open-wire design is perfect for DIYers who want to customize lengths or add plugs. Performance and Effectiveness This little buck converter performs flawlessly. It consistently outputs a stable 5.01-5.03V even when input fluctuates between 11V and 28V (tested with a multimeter). I loaded it to the full 5A with a Raspberry Pi 4 plus a 2.5” SSD and touchscreen—no heat issues or voltage drop after hours of use. At lighter loads (LED strips ~1A), it stays completely cool. Waterproofing held up perfectly: I sprayed it directly with a hose and rode the motorcycle in heavy rain—no failures. Efficiency seems high; my car battery drain was minimal. It powered everything I threw at it: dash cam, phone chargers, Arduino projects, and even a small cooling fan without any whining noise or interference on my car radio. Pros • Truly Waterproof: Fully potted design survived direct water spray and rainy rides. • Stable Output: Rock-solid 5V at up to 5A, handles voltage swings perfectly. • Compact & Mountable: Easy to hide and secure in tight spaces. • Long Wires: Pre-stripped and labeled—great for DIY without extra work. • Versatile: Works with 12V car/motorcycle or 24V truck/golf cart systems. • Excellent Value: Does the job of more expensive name-brand converters. Cons • No On/Off Switch: You have to disconnect wires or add your own switch for convenience. • Wires Could Be Thicker: 20 AWG is fine for 5A, but heavy users might want to extend with thicker gauge. • Basic Packaging: No included connectors or heat shrink (though most DIYers have these anyway). ... show more

  • Good buck converter
Style: 1-Pack
Good budget converter. (high end of the low cost models). This converter provides a stable 5 V output from 12–24 V sources - I use it on small electronics projects. Using an electronic load the voltage was stable at 5 A in short tests. The module is fully potted, with a compact housing, mounting ears, and color‑coded open leads. Measured outputs are generally around 5.0–5.3 V across a wide input range, with low ripple. The lack of reverse‑polarity protection means wiring errors can be destructive, so it is better suited to permanent, correctly fused installations than frequent rework. Price is somewhat higher than bare buck modules, but mechanically solid, electrically stable. ... show more

  • Nice quality, efficient, durable and provides clean stable power, even at 5A. Recommended.
Style: 1-Pack
I'm pretty happy with the quality and performance of this little buck converter. It works great if you need to step a DC input voltage down to 5V. I've used it to step down 24V and 12V to 5V voltage to power 5V devices and it has worked flawlessly for that. It provides stable output up to 5A and installation is easy thanks to the handy diagrams they provide. Overall this feels durable and well made. The waterproof enclosure makes this great for marine use, outdoor use and more. I really like the built in over current, over heat and low voltage protection. Keep in mind this does not have a diode for reverse polarity protection but that's easily avoidable if you're careful and follow the simple instructions. This converter can handle input voltages in the 8 to 32 V range but the manufacturer recommends 12V or 24V. If you need an affordable buck converter that provides clean stable 5V power from a 12 or 24V input voltage, this works well and offers a good value. Based on my experience so far, I definitely recommend it. ... show more
