This review is for the M1A2 brand L5-30P to L14-30R adapter cord. I have quite a few adapter cords from this brand. They are all well made and this adapter cord is no different. I ordered this because my new generator has the L5-30R plug, but I don’t have any extension cords with this plug. This adapter cord allows me to use my L14-30 cords with the L5-30R plug on my new generator. Obviously, 240 volt appliances will not work. In my case, I have another adapter cord from M1A2 that converts the L14-30 into standard outlets.

I have one of those L14-30 cords that is 25' long with a splitter to 3x 5-15 outlets. In looking for a converter that would allow for use of the cable I had on hand, this fits the bill perfectly for me. The adapter is pliable yet built as expected where I had no using with heat OR general failures.

This is as I expected going from the 30A 120V twistlock (L5-30) to a 240V 30A twistlock (L14-30). The "Hot" from the 120V side is connected to both "Hot" on the 240V side (with neutral and ground going thru accordingly). So just because it fits the 240V connection doesn't mean it magically gives you 240V power from the 120V input (where I hope you don't expect that). For many it'll allow 120V power thru to a "transfer switch" to run many house things, but if a device expects 240V power you won't get it from this.

This is perfect for adapting a 120v generator outlet into a whole house inlet that uses the L14-30 interface. This will light up both legs, so be careful that you do not try to run anything that uses 240 as it will not function in this manner. You can, however, run all 120v appliances in the home just fine regardless of which leg they are on. Well made, and tested immediately after receiving. Works as it should.
