  • PSVR2: A Smooth Leap into VR
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 Bundle (PSVR2)
Stepping into VR with Sony's latest PlayStation VR2, bundled with Horizon Call of The Mountain™, has been a revelation. Coming from a PC VR background, I've been pleasantly surprised by how Sony has leveled up the game with the PS5 and PSVR2. The setup is a breeze compared to the hoops I used to jump through with my PC setup. Honestly, it's almost like comparing apples to oranges when you look at the ease of getting everything up and running. And the graphics? They're nipping at the heels of the Vive Pro 2, which is saying something. For anyone looking to dip their toes into VR waters, I'd nudge you towards this PS5 and PSVR2 combo. It’s the simplicity and ease of setup that really seals the deal for me. It’s as close to plug-and-play as VR has ever been. But it’s not all smooth sailing. There’s a bit of a hiccup with the handheld controllers; they occasionally need a reset to play nice with the games. There’s a tiny reset button you'll need to prod with a pin on the back of the controller. It’s a bit of an annoyance and, frankly, something Sony should've ironed out by now. Hey Sony, it’s time for a fix! Despite this minor gripe, the overall experience has been stellar. The PlayStation VR2, paired with the immersive landscapes of Horizon Call of The Mountain™, offers an entry into VR that’s hard to beat. It’s straightforward, hassle-free, and delivers an impressive visual punch that gets you close to the high-end PC VR experience, without the usual setup dance. If you’ve been on the fence about stepping into VR, this bundle might just be your perfect entry point. ... show more

  • Massive improvement over PSVR
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 Bundle (PSVR2)
I hated the first PSVR headset with a passion. It was the biggest waste of money I’ve ever experienced; In my 3 years of owning it, I maybe used it 10 times bc of how much of a hassle it was to set up and the lackluster gaming experience. I mean it when I say the PSVR2 is light years ahead of the first one. Almost every problem I had was not only addressed, but completely solved. There is 1 cable, that’s it. No more multiple HDMI cables and a whole separate module to run the headset. Just 1 usb c that plugs into the front of your PS5. That alone is worth the price of admission. The controllers are far superior, more similar to VR controllers for PC platforms than the Wii remote rip off from the first one. A built in headset, so you don’t have to plug in your old earbuds and have them constantly ripped out of your ears. The ease of use is the best part about this. It takes maybe 45 seconds to set up, disregarding the play area scanning, that can take a little while if your room is a little wonky and doesn’t have a square area you can scan. I’ve played a few games so far, with the Horizon game being the best in my opinion. It’s awesome shooting a bow and actually having to pull the arrow back and reach over your shoulder to grab another one. It’s immersive as all hell and I love it. You have to play No Man’s Sky as well, the flying is quite possibly the coolest gaming experience I’ve ever had. Actually being able to control the throttle and joystick is insane. I do wish Sony would back some more games for this headset, as the lineup is a little weak, especially compared to what is available on other VR platforms. But the big titles that are here are solid and will be enough to justify this very expensive purchase in my opinion. My only issues with the headset itself are the lenses and the lack of airflow. The picture quality isn’t perfect, it will look blurry if you don’t adjust the lenses perfectly, there’s really no margin of error for that unfortunately. Even when you do find that perfect adjustment, it’s still a little blurry. I find myself taking the headset off quite a lot because of how hot it can get under it. The lenses fog up a lot and I have to wipe the sweat off of my face, which completely breaks the immersion. Overall, I love this thing. I’ve used it more in the 2 weeks I’ve owned it than I did in the 3 years I owned the first headset. I’d say wait for a sale to come around if you’re not totally sold on VR and aren’t really sure if this is something you’ll use a lot. If you do like VR and can see yourself using this quite often, then I’d absolutely recommend buying it as soon as you can. This is an incredible experience. ... show more

  • I can't get enough
Platform For Display: PlayStation VR2 Color: PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2)
I know I know, it's not the best VR system on the planet. But it has several things going for it. First of all, I can play in the living room where my PS5 is. My gaming computer is in a small office shared by my fiancée's computer so not nearly enough room to use VR unless I'm sitting in my chair. Second, the price point seems to be really good for a system with 2k resolution per eye and OLED screens. I primarily bought the PSVR2 for Gran Turismo 7, easily my favorite franchise, and the VR for that game is exquisite. Maybe too good, at least at first. It's so good that my mind and body couldn't comprehend going around corners and through dips and inclines and not feeling the various forces involved, and it started to give me some pretty bad motion sickness, something that I've never really had to deal with before. Thankfully I've been easing my way into it and it's getting better every time I try it. But in the meantime, I've been playing other games a lot. I've spent more on VR games in the last month than any other games combined. Puzzle games like Humanity, Puzzling Places, and Tetris Effect are all a lot of fun in VR. But the absolute best part is the fitness games. Finally a way to get me off the couch and getting some exercise! Beat Saber, Synth Riders, Pistol Whip, and Les Mills Body Combat are my go-to games for active playing, and I love having finally found a way to get some exercise without it feeling like a chore. Don't think, just buy. You'll love it. ... show more
