  • this bundle fit the bill nicely as the PSVR2 wouldn't provide me anything extra at ...
I knew going in that this was the PSVR1 and not the PSVR2. At the moment, I do not have a 4K TV, much less HDR. Nor do I have the PS4 Pro. But wanting to see what VR was all about, this bundle fit the bill nicely as the PSVR2 wouldn't provide me anything extra at the moment. Simply put, the PSVR1 is the perfect choice for my current setup. I won't spend too much time on the actual design and manufacturing of the unit as it is pretty well known that Sony is generally considered A+ in this area. I will note that the headset fit very nicely, and I like the options provided for adjusting the fit. The unit does not feel bulky or uncomfortable while wearing it. As a bonus, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the camera fit nicely on my years old plasma TV. I had expected that I would have to find a way to position or mount the camera in some other fashion. Regarding the bundled Gran Turismo Sport: I have been a GT fan from the beginning, so it was a pretty sure bet that I would have picked this up at some point even if I didn't have VR. In the VR mode, you can race on any track in the game as long as you've already opened them up. The actual racing is limited to a 2 car race in VR, which is a little disappointing. Plus, you do not have the ability to even tweak the AI settings for your one opponent. In the beginning, you won't care, as just driving around in VR is enough to satisfy. But eventually, the need to have more opponents and tougher opponents will prevail. As it stands now, I've actually put in almost as much time with GT in regular mode as I have with VR mode, although it should be noted that it is necessary in order to level up and open up new tracks for VR mode. One can hope that perhaps a patch somewhere down the line may address these shortcomings. In reality, however, the bundled game really isn't going to make or break the decision on jumping into the VR realm. Now onto the VR itself, which is simply fun. If you go into it expecting the fine detail of the regular PS4 graphics, you will be disappointed. The display can appear a little fuzzy or grainy compared to the normal views the PS4 renders. But don't let that get in the way. Once you've immersed yourself into that VR world, you won't spend too much time thinking about the graphics as you're having too much fun with the experience. Many of the demos included with the set and on PSN have already become wish list candidates. And I've been eyeing other VR titles as well. I've even spent some time playing non VR games in cinematic mode. With GT, this was a good way to level up and open some new tracks for VR mode. I don't foresee VR totally occupying all of my PS time. After a while, I do find that I need to take a break and give my eyes and body a rest. But I do see many more VR titles in my future and more time spent in VR. ... show more

  • Worth every single penny from day 1!
The first thing I watched with the VR was a free download music video by KHALID. I almost hate admitting this but it seriously brought a tear to my eye how beautiful and immersive the experience was! I showed my Mom, my Aunt, my friends that came over to watch UFC that night. Every single person was just as blown away by the experience. There are several free downloads for VR, I really like the Anywhere VR ocean views (which can ticker tape your twitter feed in the sky). Warning: you may not want to go to work or leave the house, so be careful of becoming agoraphobic. =) But I got it so while my broken leg is healing I can do something new and boy was this a good move!! You probably think I'm just hyping this up or gd forbid PAID to say such a glowing review, but I hardly ever take the time to review something, even when its good and I like it, but THIS is beyond epic and I'd feel bad if you didn't know that yet. I normally use a projector on one wall and a flat screen on the wall to my right. Whatever you are viewing through the VR headset is also displayed on your monitor(s). It comes with ear buds, but I use my Skullcandy full ear muff style headphones. Audio will also play and be independently adjustable from your headphone levels. The entire set up isn't too difficult but it is a little bit involved and takes a little while but just wait til you see what is possible with this, and its only going to get better from here! HAVE FUN! ... show more

  • Worth the Experience!
Worth the experience with some caveats...This comes with the first version headset and I can certainly see the need for 2nd version if you have a PS4 Pro for more immersion and better Cinema mode experience, but this 1st gen experience is still AWESOME! Cinema mode is where any game or movie can be played. This can also help parents who has the PS system in the living room(A person can play games or watch movies on the headset with headphones while others watch television). Cinema mode tricks your brain into thinking that you are in a dark theatre, in the center seat, about 3 to 4 rows up, watching or playing a game(like NBA 2K18) on a huge theatre screen, which I feel would be even more awesome on the 2nd gen headset with HD pass through and PS4 Pro....I still don’t regret getting this as it has made me more excited to move to a Pro console with a 2nd gen headset...Oh! I don’t care for the new round camera. It does not rotate up or down like the square version, so it makes adjusting the camera a little more cumbersome. ... show more

  • This is a great deal if you was planning on buying gt!
This bundle is a awesome value for $299, as long as you understand what you are getting! First, Gran Turismo isn't fully playable in VR, only a few things are available in VR. It's not the best game to include in this bundle but I was planning on buying it anyway! Second, yes this isn't the new model of the VR headset, but that doesn't matter if you don't have a PlayStation pro AND a 4k tv with HDR. That's the only difference that matters between the new and old versions, the HDR pass thru, which has nothing to do with playing in VR mode, only on your television. Third, the immersion in games is very good! No this is not a high end VR headset like the vibe, but a good balance between performance and value. I've played with all the more popular headsets and chose to purchase this because of the value and convince. Yes there's a screen door effect but you only notice it when you look for it, it's nowhere as noticable as the rift dk2 or mobile VR. Yes the PlayStation has to downgrade the graphics to be able to produce a VR image, which is why there won't be a newer version of the headset until the next generation of consles come out. I already have the move controllers, so I bought this kit along with Skyrim VR for around $350, so if you want the best VR experience then buy a vibe or rift, but to me the difference in the cost isn't worth it. ... show more

  • Missed it by that much.
The PS VR is pretty cool but still very gimmicky and lacks re-playable games. The included GT racing game is absolute crap for VR. It is mainly a regular racing game that should be payed without the VR but has a "VR" mode. The menus within the VR mode are not tuned to the dual screens of the VR which causes the offset red/blue images you'd expect when watching a 3d movie without glasses and results in terrible eyestrain. The gameplay itself is horrible and depending on the car you choose you may end up staring out the side window the entire race even when starting out facing the correct direction. The game itself would be a one-star review if reviewed outside the VR bundle. So far, the only game I've played for the PS VR that provided an OK VR experience was DOOM VR but they missed the mark on that one too by requiring the use of the move controllers instead of the regular PS 4 controllers. As a result the layer must point and click their way around the map, vary tedious and inaccurate. Missed it by that much :( The only reason I did not rate lower is because this is relatively new tech and still has many bugs to work out, regardless of the platform. ... show more

I’m not sure what all the fuss is about, the PSVR is crazy fun! This bundle has a sweet demo disc and there’s lots of free downloadable content on the PS store (the Star Wars BF1 VR mission is cool). VR is what we’ve been looking forward to since the 80s and it’s officially arrived! Start slow, so you can build up tolerance, then jump in! ... show more

  • Great Product and Fast shipping!
I received it early today just like they said. I got the PS VR opened and it was all there and never used. It was listed as an open box or used but it was just opened. So far it has worked perfect. I haven't had a lot of time to really comment on the overall quality but so far I really like it. I will update more after I use it some more. ... show more
