  • Worth the wait.
Arguing over Xbox vs PS3 is pointless. Both are great systems with amazing hardware and great games. Have owned an Xbox 360 for numerous years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I had never gotten around to picking up the PS3 until this deal came along. 250gb hard drive and two games that are worth $60 each at the time of purchase for the price of the basic 12gb model. Yeah, definitely a deal not to pass on. For me the system is all about the games. Yeah it's got Netflix, various media connectivity and other bells and whistles but I just use it to play games. So I won't bother reviewing the hardware. It does what it needs to do for me. I have been a huge fan of the Batman: Arkham games. I had been meaning to pick this one up and this was the perfect opportunity to get into it. If you've played Arkham City, it's really more of the same. But the same is great fun so I don't mind. Story wasn't as strong but zipping around the city, laying out criminals never really seems to get old. Gorgeous visuals as well. The Last of Us has gotten plenty of attention across the internet as I had been very interested in trying it out. I haven't finished it, but it is quite an experience. Stunning graphics, and a hard hitting story (so far). I can see why people are talking. But it is brutal. Not much room for error. I find myself trying the same scenario multiple times trying to find that "just right" strategy the gets me through a tight spot. Loads of fun though. All in all this is the time to jump on board if you've been holding off on either the PS3 or Xbox 360. Each has a well established library of fantastic games for dirt cheap prices. This will keep me busy until the Xbox One and PS4 can build up a decent selection of games to choose from. Pros: Large library of inexpensive, tremendous titles. Graphics still hold up well. PS Plus will keep a fresh supply of games coming in. Cons: I just don't like the DualShock 3 controller. (Just a personal preference. Not much of a con.) ... show more

  • PlayStation 3 Black Friday Bundle 2013
The media could not be loaded. I purchased the PS3 Black Friday bundle, and this is my first experience with the PlayStation 3 (although I did own a PS2). The console was easy to setup right out of the box, and everything seems high quality and durable. For those who aren't game-saavy, this console is very easy and fun to use; it would make a nice gift for the casual gamer. The bundle features two best-selling and critically acclaimed games: "The Last of Us" and "Batman: Arkham Origins". Both are included in disc format (although they don't come in the typical plastic cases, but rather in cardboard sleeves). These games are great to get you started, but there are a number of others games that you'll want to look into. Sony has quite a few good PS3 exclusive games - I'd recommend checking out "Gran Turismo 5", "God of War: Ascension", and "Journey". A DualShock Wireless Remote is included - the remote's wireless signal reaches well over 20 feet. The only thing to note is that you will need to connect it to the console via a USB cable in order to charge it from time to time (but it sure beats going through AA batteries like the XBOX controllers). Additional remotes typically cost $30-50. This PS3 bundle also includes all required cables to get the unit working right out of the box - this includes a power cord and composite A/V cables. Unfortunately, an HDMI cable is NOT included, so you'll want to buy one if you wish to play/watch content in HD. One common question is this: Will PS2 games will work on the PS3? The answer is NO - this console will not play your prior generation PlayStation game discs. Fortunately, many of the classic games from PS2 can be purchased for the PS3, some in disc format and others as digital downloads on the PlayStation Network. Another frequent question is: Can I watch movies on the PS3? The answer is YES. You can connect wirelessly to many of your video streaming sites, such as Netflix. The console also plays DVDs and Blu-Ray discs. It can handle 3D blu-rays as well (provided you have the necessary setup, which includes a 3D TV). As a bonus, buyers get one free month of membership in PlayStation Plus. The PS+ membership gives you access to an instant collection of digital games, member-only discounts, and 3 GB of online save game space. ... show more
