I could not believe how much fun this game was. I was hunting for a PS3 game and was familiar with Fallout from the Amazon Prime series and thought I'd give it a try. I love the ability to explore all corners of a world as well as the large numbers of quests. I'm a shoot-and-loot player always hunting for more weapons, apparel, caps, you name it. I'm extremely late coming to the franchise, so there isn't much I could tell anyone that hasn't already been covered, but I highly recommend it if you favor the explore and kill style of game. And the VATS aim-and-shoot feature is fantastic. The only critique is that the makers shoved a lot of data onto the game disc, and it is noticeable in the occasional game freezes and audio-skips, but it wasn't enough to detract from gameplay. ... show more

Fallout was my introduction to the Role-Playing genre! I loved the customization of the character, and journeying across the vast wasteland for one single purpose...to find you father. But you have to survive the Raiders, the zombified Feral Ghouls, the Super Mutants, and every other danger of the waste first. Bethesda out did themselves on this one. I bought the Game of the Year Edition of Fallout 3, because like I said in my review of Fallout New Vegas Ultimate edition, I dont have internet thats good enough to go on the Playstation store, and buy them all individually. So I got the next best thing...a disc with the base game and all of the DLC in it! Now, because I never played the DLC, I've only completed 2.5 out of the 5 dlc, but i'll do my best to tell you. 1. The Capitol Wasteland is vast (disregarding the other maps added by dlc) in its own right. Based in post-apocalyptic Washington D.C., its a huge map, with alot of ground to cover! There are two major factions...the Brotherhood of Steel, who are steel aromer clad Crusaders who fight the Super Mutant menace. And then theres the Enclave, who are basically post apocalyptic Nazi's. No spoilers...but most of the story greatly revolves around the conflict between the two factions. 2. The dlc add a bunch of new areas to explore, like Pittsburgh in the Pitt, the virtual training sim of Alaska, the swamps of Maine in Point Lookout, a f***ing Alien ship! Yeah...alot of places. 3. There is a plethora of armor and weapons in the game alone, and even more added by the dlc (like the bada** Auto Saw, and the Gauss Rifle.) The signature armor of the Fallout universe is on the cover. Power Armor is some of the best heavy armor you can find. There are several variants, theres the Brotherhoods armor, the Enclaves armors (not only one set, but they also have Tesla armor.) Some of the best armor in the game. My favorite is the T51-d power armor that you get from Operation: Anchorage DLC, its prewar power armor, thats fully intact. 4. With Broken Steel, the story of the Lone Wanderer from Vault 101 (as said by Three-Dog), basically comes full circle, as the war with the Enclave has officially begun. Continuing from above, alot of weapons were already in the game, but now...theres Hellfire Armor...its Jet black, and is carried by the Elites of the Enclave...always keep a set for yourself, because its some awesome armor. I seriously don't know what else I could tell you...other than you should buy this game! I said it once and I'll say it again....Bethesda outdid themselves..... 10/10 baby! :D ... show more

I was very hesitant to buy this due to the negative reviews and I remember being terribly frustrated with all the bugs and glitches while playing Morrowind on my old Xbox. When I first bought the regular edition of Fallout 3, I had no idea I'd enjoy it as much as I would. I knew I just had to play the add-ons somehow, so I took the risk and bought the GOTY version, despite the negativity surrounding it. I'm glad I took the chance. The fun this game has been has so far outweighed any irritation from its problems, and I'm pretty much finished with it. As for the freezing, glitches and bugs, to be honest, I haven't had a whole lot of problems. My game does tend to "freeze" during VATS sometimes, especially outside in the Wasteland, but it doesn't stay frozen. I just have to wait a few seconds. It does the same thing while simply walking around, too. Ironically, during the bottlecap exploitation, where you buy and re-sell the same item to a trader over and over again, in order to take all their caps, has actually been better on the GOTY version. My game used to freeze all the time with the regular version while doing that. Only once did my game actually freeze permanently and I had to restart my PS3, and that was using VATS outside in the Wastes. Irritating, yes, but in my case, rare. I have noticed that some of the NPCs act a bit more bizarrely than I'm used to, like Senora Cruz running outside in the middle of a fight between radscorpions and sentry bots. Never had that happen before. So there are problems, but nothing that has really given me a headache or make me want to throw my controller down in frustration. I really have no idea why others are having so many problems with the GOTY version, but I do have an older 80gb PS3 and my hard-drive is pretty clean, I don't know if any of that would matter or not. I also made a point of buying this game brand new, just in case the older shipments had something wrong with them that Bethesda won't own up to. In the end, for me personally and in my individual experience, this game has been significantly more good than bad. I wish everyone else had better luck with it. ... show more

While I do understand the frustrations with glitches, I don't think they can make a dent in how I feel about this game. Even if you complete all the side quests (which I think are generally even more enjoyable than the main arc), I feel this game has a high level of "replayability". I'd play this over and over again, even if it meant 120-plus hours each time. It's just so immersive, and there are so many weapons to find and perks to try as you level up. Easily my favorite game. I make a point to wait until potential Game of the Year Editions come out, and I'm especially glad I picked up this one. In the Pitt I mostly enjoyed the yard fighting off trogs, and Mothership Zeta was entertaining. But I loved Operation Anchorage and Point Lookout. Both of these felt like almost second and third games to me--definitely a different feeling than walking through the ruins of DC, but connected enough where it counts. I found it overwhelmingly worth it to buy this edition to get the DLC. Had I known about all the mods available to the PC gamers, I may have looked more into that version instead. I may still. However, as a PS3 users, I don't think console gamers will be disappointed. ... show more

I have been an avid fan of this series since the first one came out all those years ago. I still have it for my PC and play it from time to time... Mostly for the nostalgia and laughs! So, when I saw that there was to be a 3rd one, I was excited! However, it took me this long to buy it since I didn't have the PS3 until now. I read other reviews before buying this addition since there seem to be some problems with freezing... However, I bought it anyway - I just couldn't resist the amazing price. (Thank you Amazon!) I have been playing this game on and off for the past couple months. As for the freezing... I have only experienced that 5 times. And since I have it set on automatic save, it really didn't affect me that much. I just reloaded from the auto save and I am usually within five minutes from the incident. So, I personally think that the freezing is not a huge issue. You are bound to have freezing time to time from any game. As for the game itself... I really am enjoying it. The graphics aren't the best I've seen, but I'm not really into the game because of graphics. I love it for its replay ability and for the cool weapons and for the awesome ways that you can kill someone! :) I love the slow motion scenes when you blast someone's arm off. Yes, it's a mature game, but I'm also a mature gamer, so it's all good. I would like to mention, however, that the other two installments of Fallout are much funnier. I was hoping the same kind of humor would be in this game as well, but it didn't really meet my expectations. Overall - this is a vast game that leaves you with the eagerness to finish the game just to start it over and choose different paths. It's also not too hard once you get good armor and a decent weapon... After that, you OWN the wasteland. :) Enjoy! ... show more

It took me a while to get into this game but once I did I really liked it. It's one of those games the further you get into the the better it gets. Basically this game is very much like a Grand Theft Auto concept. You can do missions or you can run around and do whatever. Pro's: - Very big world to explore...very big - Voice acting pretty good and convincing - Good number of missions...don't like one, just do another one or go exploring - The further you get, the more items you find and acquire, which makes the game more fun Cons: - Glitches- and I don't mean one or two. This got very annoying at times, where I would have to restart my PS3 and go to the most recent save point. The good thing is an auto save feature usually brings you close to where you were. The glitches got to be such a pain at one point I had to alter my gameplay because it kept freezing up in the same spot each time. My PS3 was brand new when I was playing this game and I have never had any problems like this on other games outside of this game. - Graphics- This was not a problem for me, but basically to me they are PS2 graphics. The game is so great though this was a none issue for me...I'm just mentioning it. ... show more
