  • I should've just bought this first
Platform For Display: PlayStation 3 Edition: Game of the Year
I was very hesitant to buy this due to the negative reviews and I remember being terribly frustrated with all the bugs and glitches while playing Morrowind on my old Xbox. When I first bought the regular edition of Fallout 3, I had no idea I'd enjoy it as much as I would. I knew I just had to play the add-ons somehow, so I took the risk and bought the GOTY version, despite the negativity surrounding it. I'm glad I took the chance. The fun this game has been has so far outweighed any irritation from its problems, and I'm pretty much finished with it. As for the freezing, glitches and bugs, to be honest, I haven't had a whole lot of problems. My game does tend to "freeze" during VATS sometimes, especially outside in the Wasteland, but it doesn't stay frozen. I just have to wait a few seconds. It does the same thing while simply walking around, too. Ironically, during the bottlecap exploitation, where you buy and re-sell the same item to a trader over and over again, in order to take all their caps, has actually been better on the GOTY version. My game used to freeze all the time with the regular version while doing that. Only once did my game actually freeze permanently and I had to restart my PS3, and that was using VATS outside in the Wastes. Irritating, yes, but in my case, rare. I have noticed that some of the NPCs act a bit more bizarrely than I'm used to, like Senora Cruz running outside in the middle of a fight between radscorpions and sentry bots. Never had that happen before. So there are problems, but nothing that has really given me a headache or make me want to throw my controller down in frustration. I really have no idea why others are having so many problems with the GOTY version, but I do have an older 80gb PS3 and my hard-drive is pretty clean, I don't know if any of that would matter or not. I also made a point of buying this game brand new, just in case the older shipments had something wrong with them that Bethesda won't own up to. In the end, for me personally and in my individual experience, this game has been significantly more good than bad. I wish everyone else had better luck with it. ... show more

  • Great so far
Platform For Display: PlayStation 3 Edition: Game of the Year
I never owned fallout before the GOTY, and as of right now, I havent experienced the trouble that others are reporting. I only have about 2 maybe 3 hours of gameplay in right now, so it may be too early to tell. I wonder how big the hard drives are for those having trouble. The game is wonderful, I really cant find any complaints with it. Give me a few more weeks and I will come back and do an update. UPDATE-----------------------------------------------------29 OCT 09 Ok. The game does freeze up, but I think I found out why. 1. sometimes I play while I'm connected to teh playstation network and in chat it will freeze if I try to send a message or something. But that is really not the game itself. 2. I found myself playing for quite awhile the other day. Lets say almost 9 hours straight. The game actually froze up on me and I cut it off, granted I played for 9 hours straight, (a lot of wasted time I know). It has frozen slightly a few times but this game is huge. I have not experienced anything like others are saying but as I keep playin I will keep yall updated. Also, I think I'm gonna delete some of the demos I have so I can have more room on my HDD. I still give it 5 stars, because this game is excellent. UPDATE-----------------------------------------------------21 DEC 09 Ok. I had to tke a star away because of the freezing problems. Yes it does freeze, and there are frame rate issues. I am doing point look out atm and it seems when I fast travel to certian areas there are frame rate issues. I have found out one thing worked for sure, and another thing that kinda helped it. 1st the thing that helped. When ever things slowed down especially from a fast travel I "outran" the lag. Meaning I kept moving to a different area and that cleared it up a bit. 2nd thing that worked was I just paused quickly before it froze and quit the game. Then reloaded. It saved a lot more time then trying to play through watching it freeze then having to reset. Last thing. You dont have to hard reset the game for it to stop. I found that resetting this way gives me a msg of not turing off the PS3 correctly. What I have been doing instead is ejecting then reinserting the game. This causes the PS3 to reset and no error msg. Anyway Fallout 3 is still one of the best games I have played. I does have some issues but to those who are interested in this game, it is well worth it. You will have to do some tricks with it later, but if you can stand that then you will enjoy this game. ... show more
