  • Solid reel
Style: Red & Black Left-handed Retrive
This a terrific ice fishing reel for the money, I have a couple of similar reels that were much more expensive and these Piscifun reels work every bit as well if not a touch better. They do work best in a heated shanty, outside in the open the free fall can be very slow if not at all,( the same for the others I mentioned earlier as well). The drag is simple and works great as does the free fall adjustment. I highly recommend this reel. At least for jig fishing. ... show more

  • Best in line ice reel I have used.
Style: Red & Black Right-handed Retrive
I have 7 different models of inline reels. The ICX Carbon is definitely my favorite. I thought the 2 direction line release was something I would never use. Well I was wrong. It works great for free spooling line when using a tip down or a finicky fooler or I fish pro. The free spool tension stops backlash. I will be replacing all my in-line reels with ICX Carbon’s. The versatility and quality of these reels is hard to beat. These and no other reel I have tried will drop a 3 or 4mm tungsten. They will however eliminate line twist one gets with spinning reels. ... show more

  • Not Just For Ice Fishing
Style: Sliver & Black Left-handed Retrive
I don't live in an area where there are frozen lakes, so I don't use these for ice fishing. I use them for crappie jigging from a boat. For dropping and jigging very light weight jigs these have an advantage over a small spinning reel. They don't twist line as often as a spinning reel and I just enjoy jigging with this type of reel more. If you have a need to cast the jig, this obviously won't do what a sinning reel can. This is not my first inline reel by any means. I used JDM Japanese Shimano inline reels years before these reels hit the scene in the US. Unfortunately, the Shimano inline reels do not have a long stem. They are more like a fly reel with gearing. The Shimano inline reels I have don't have an anti-reverse bearing or even a drag system. You must keep finger pressure on the spool while fishing and use finger pressure as the drag. The Japanese use them for Porgy and Black Bream fishing. They are fun to use, and the quality is second to none. They also cost around $300 for the lower end reels. The Piscifun ICX Carbon reel is by far easier to use, and you don't have a mess on your hands if you set the hook without thumb pressure on the spool as with my Japanese inline reels. I was shocked to actually get it and see how small and light it is. It's easy to use and if you are thinking of a reel to drop small jigs vertically, I highly recommend this little reel. It works exactly as I expected, has a decent drag system and good build quality for the cost. I'd say the Black Betty 6061 inline reel has a better build quality than these but at a higher price. I think the Piscifun ICX Carbon is a better choice when comparing price to build quality. I'll probably be getting one or more of Piscifun's smaller all-aluminum ICX Precision models as well. It's hard to tell by the pictures, but they look to be a slightly more compact than the ICX Carbon model. ... show more

  • Up Date
Style: Red & Black Left-handed Retrive
Very smooth reel. I got it on sale for 59.00 next day was ten bucks more. With 8 bearings I can understand why it is smooth as silk. No curly line like a spinning reel. I put 110 yds of 3lb test. Left hand reel is those of us that are right handed. Right hand reels are for left handed fisherman. Same as bait casters if you are wondering. Buy one and I know you won't regret it. Up Date; It still is smooth but not meant for light line, can see using it with 8 lb test or bigger. Light line gets behind the spool way to much and now i have to tear the real aprt just to get line out. And yes with light line it happens every time i use it. Save your money and buy a good spinning reel less headaches. ... show more

  • I wanted to like it, but I'm disappointed.
Style: Red & Black Left-handed Retrive
I really wanted to like it, I currently own a couple picifun carbon X reels and love them so I figured I'd give this one a try. I have some black Betty free falls, and the freefall XL, but for the price I thought I would give this reel a try. When I first took it out of the box I decided I wasn't a big fan but I could make it work, my first complaint was that the trigger was too far away to reach in a pencil grip. Then I found out that since the reel is open on the rear my hand hits the spool and doesn't alow a pencil grip. But I decided I would try something different and deal with it. The trigger is very sloppy, once again not the end of the world but not great. But the final thing was the drag, the specs say 11lbs of drag, which it could be, my problem is the drag doesn't get loose enough. Even loosened all the way its still too tight. I wanted to like this reel but I decided I'm going to pay full price for the black Betty freefall ... show more

  • Better and Worse than 1st gen.
Style: Red & Black Left-handed Retrive
Positives: I like the fact that the reel spool is bigger than Gen 1. I like the magnet concept for drop speed. It comes with 7 tiny very powerful magnets. You turn the dial adjuster to either pull the magnet rack away, or get it closer to the spool to decrease or increase drop speed. It's a smooth reel and looks cool with the spider design. When unscrewing the spool, the nut stays attached to the spool. That's a real nice upgrade. Just one less piece to lose. It's trigger goes forward and backwards to drop a jig. Cons: It takes both hands to operate at all times, (unlike 1st gen.) I cannot position my hand correct at all to hit the drop trigger and hold on to the jig pole or reel with the same hand. I cannot hold this reel the same as a black betty and hit the drop trigger without my palm touching and dropping the spool. In order to drop a 4mm jig or (1/16th oz.) I had to pull out 4 of the 7 magnets to get the drop speed range to my liking. Not really a con, but an extra step. All in all, I will keep the reel and get used to it, but I think piscifun has more improving to do to get it in the league of the 13 fishing free fall ghost reel. ... show more

Nice ice fishing reel. Good quality for the price. Should have a lot less line twist.
