  • Absolutely excellent
I love pinball and have been playing pinball since before Space Invaders first came out. It's getting harder and harder to find pins any more so I have tried a couple of pinball games for computers, tablets, etc. None were like the real thing even though some had great physics. But this game for the Wii so so amazingly like the real thing. Buying this game was only about as expensive as a couple of sessions with real pins. I have spent many, many, hours with this which would have been $$$ on real pins. Williams pins have always been my favorites and several of my favorites are in this game (Black Knight, Sorcerer, Gor-Gar, PinBot, Whirlwind). The other half of the pins in this game were ones I'd never heard of. It took a while before I got around to trying them. Fun House was one of those. Wow, that is the very best one of all. I have probably now spent more time on it than all the rest combined and still haven't come close to mastering it. Space Shuttle (which I'd never heard of) is the only one that I've beat all the table goals and wizard goals. Now it is completely unlocked so I've replaced the steel ball with a superball and turned off tilt ... now I can beat the snot out of it with insane scores. I don't think I want to do that with my nostalgic favorites because with superballs and no tilt it isn't even pinball any more ;-) One of the great things they did with this game is they made several of the older machines into multi-player. They did not change any of the game play at all, as far as I recollect, but now what once were single player pins now allow four players. Cool. If it had Flash (my first multiball and my first Williams) I would be in heaven but I haven't found Flash anywhere, not even as a real pin. I also wish they'd chosen to put in a pin that had Williams' famous banana flippers. Maybe they'll make a Williams Collection II (hint, hint). If you love real pins, you must get this game! BTW, the other pin collection (Bally, maybe?) from this same is lame by comparison (but then I'm a Williams fan). ... show more

  • Classic pinball, done right
Pinball HoF: The Williams Collection, is a superior example of arcade-level pinball on a console, done right. Visually, the Wii works just fine in displaying the intricacies of pinball classics such as Pinbot, Taxi, and (of course) Funhouse. Table play is excellent for the most part (there are rare instances where the display "fuzzes", usually quite brief, and they seldom distract me), and the physics are outstanding. Balls, flippers, ramps and bumpers act exactly as I remember them, with the added bonus of never playing a table with worn rubbers, weak solenoids, or missing lights. Like pinball in the arcades, the replay value is enormous; no two games are ever alike, and every single one offers that tantalizing chance at near perfection. There are, however, a few nits to pick. 1) The table selection, while broad (it covers 25 years of Williams' classic tables, all the way from Jive Time to Funhouse), unfortunately is missing what is considered the greatest table of all time (and not just from Williams): The Addams Family. 2) While using the nunchuk & Wiimote as controls/flippers works amazingly well, the fact that the joystick on the nunchuk is used for the ball launch (plunger) only seems inspired until you realize that the nunchuk goes in your LEFT hand, while the plunger is on the right side of every pinball table. (One of the "extras" you can earn from good play is the ability to "flip" certain tables so that the plunger is on the left. Unfortunately the table now displays as if in a mirror, making all shots for ramps and targets reversed. That just doesn't cut it.) 3) While you can choose from a variety of camera angles and styles from within any game, you must do so (while playing!) from within each instance of any game; there is no method for choosing a default view that you can keep from start to finish. On the other hand, the sounds are wonderfully faithful to the arcade tables, the challenges and tactics I developed over my 30 year love affair with arcade pinball remain just as I remember, and best of all, I still love hearing Chuckie choke and gurgle when the clock strikes midnight at the Funhouse and I slap that ball right into his slack-jawed mouth, setting off one of my favorite free-for-alls in pinball history. Now if only I could have The Addams Family table (and maybe Terminator 2: Judgement Day as well), my pinball life would be complete. Recommendation: If you love pinball, buy it. You will not be disappointed. ... show more

  • FANTASTIC GAME
I am 64 years old and just got this game yesterday. Can't believe the graphics and the music. The controls were very easy to use. It took me a while to realize that waving the remote and nunchuck shakes the boards. I have a full size pinball machine and this by far is great. Several playing fields can be selected. I really liked the way in the instruction booklet they describe the playing field as well as the year in which it came about. I have played 6 fields so far and just played a mere 40 minutes. When I finally stopped, I said to myself this game was worth every penny I spent on it. I have other WII games, however the controls on this game are really easy to use. No matter what age you are,fun is just around the corner playing this game. Bottom line is that I purchased this game after reading all the reviews on this game vs the Gottlieb Pinball. Do yourself a favor and purchase this game now!!!! The price has gone down a few cents since I purchased it. Oh yes, find a second game to order and you can save shipping(over[...] free shipping). I bought Party Game 3. I hope this review helps you decide. Can't wait to get home and spend more time this evening playing. My wife saw the screens/playing fields and she wants part of the action also. Good luck and enjoy a night of fun. ... show more

  • Good graphics, fair play
The graphics are good, but the game play is just fair. Also, I was somewhat annoyed by the viewing angle--I really wanted to see the entire table, but something was always chopped off, no matter what view I selected. Also, the UI is a little funky--it would be nice if you didn't have to wander through an arcade to choose a table. I'd like to be able to switch to a take without taking a long trip through the game. Basically, I played it for a few days and haven't touched it since. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't buy it. ... show more
