  • Try the kindle edition,
Format: Kindle
I can add little to the five star reviews i've read. Damon has added little derails that have attracted me to his work. For example when talking about the keys and which fingers to use and how to press them he adds the detail that you don't forget to release the key. Anyone who gets that technical goes up in my opinion,. I would only add the recommendation that you buy the kindle edition. The kindle is attached to the internet so as you're going through the lessons there is a place to touch that brings the video lesson up on your kindle while you are still sitting at your piano. You don't have to get up, go to your computer, watch the lesson and then go back to your piano. If you don't have a kindle, it might be worth the investment. If the screen sleeps to quickly, go to your home screen, Press settings. Press display, then you can press sleep and change the sleep time. ... show more

  • Brought back an interest in piano that I thought had died off a long long time ago!
Format: Kindle
As a former preteen piano student (who spent long afternoons getting slapped on the back of the hand, playfully of course, by her no-nonsense Russian piano instructor) I was surprised to find that I was starting to become incredibly upset with my former self's lack of persistence. I shouldn't have given up! The book is fantastic. The index terrified me at first, but I realized that it was because it is concise, mature, and easy on the eyes. Rather than learning by a book that oozes kindergarten ABC lessons, the layout of the book and the production of the instructional videos gives more of a serious feeling of educational value and time well spent. I had an overwhelmingly delightful fit of nostalgia throughout the eBook's lessons. Despite my earlier comment, my Russian teacher was a wonderful woman with a terrifying sense of humor, yet there were some things that were missing in our lessons. For instance, within the first minute of the first instructional video, I learned something incredibly important about the very first step of piano playing; form. The position of the camera and the instructions in the videos are flawless. Sitting side by side with an instructor can be difficult, awkward, embarrassing, and you can't really rewind her over and over again. I really enjoy the thought that if I make any mistakes, only I will know! What really caught my eye was the very beginning and the very end of the book. In particular, I wanted so bad to skip past and find out about lesson 36. Aside from lesson 36, there are many more lessons that sneakily teach music theory, your Major and Minor chords, and if you've ever wonder what those black keys are for, well that's in there too! O.K, before I get too carried away, my all time favorite part, the most captivating, I-must-succeed-in-mastering-this-instrument-type of part was the mention of improvised piano playing. Can you imagine being able to read a language of symbols and have that knowledge surge straight from your brain down to your own two hands that then begin constructing beautiful melodies? It's a surreal idea that I suppose a non-musical person, as myself, finds astounding from every angle. And lastly, I'd like to mention that this eBook is going to be the most practical and thoughtful father's day gift I have ever had the opportunity to bestow upon my Papa. He's been playing piano for nearly 40 years. ... show more

  • You gotta buy this Book!
Format: Paperback
My life long impression of piano lessons have been strict discipline, hard, and students forced to learn have hated piano lessons. So I stayed away. (I’m 61) I found Hoffman Academy because it is a friendly approach to piano and my learning style for memorizing when I get past the “Mr Roger’s” image in my head. But I braved it out and purchased this book. I’m amazingly surprised!!! I can follow this! I purchased another book with up to 4 chord songs. I’m about ready to start slowly playing a slow song like “I’m leaving on a jet plane”and “sweat Caroline”. What inspired me was guitar lessons because of the half step, whole step concept and other theory examples used with piano keys. I’m only into the first 23 lessons. I look forward to piano lessons! ... show more

Helpful book but a bit disorganized and unclear at times. Solid option with a bit of YouTube assisted help.

  • Friendly, Entertaining, and Informational Book
Format: Kindle
This Piano Scales Book is Friendly, starting from the Basics all the way up to Advance. They go from Finger positions, motions, postures, to Music Theory and different types of Clef to make anyone who is willing to learn Piano Highly easy to do so. If you want to jump right into the fray of Piano playing and techniques, this will help you start where you need to be at. With each Lesson having its own video and friendly instructions, it makes even me who has trouble with the finger positions along with each key strokes, has lead to me being able to play my favorite songs without must trouble. Which I am still going through the book myself, I can at least play a few scores from Harry Potter without much trouble. The Videos they've presented with each lesson is pleasant and capturing to the eyes, with a smoothing voice behind each lesson, that leads to no drowning and boredom that most people feel during a classroom. With Damon showing us how each lesson is meant to be, its very easy to stay on track and keep on track. Each Lesson shows where the finger positions should be located, what the lesson will be concentrated on and a video below so everyone can not only see, plus hear what each lessons means but they get a way of how playing the piano should be. Once you start going through each lesson, they have you start from Level 1, to Level 5 which means your basically able to start your own style of piano after level 5 Advance Piano techniques. I'm currently on level 2 which I start with multiple major cords and scales, it keeps on advancing as you go throughout the book. Take your time with each lesson till you basically can do it with your eyes close then continue to the next level. With a book both entertaining and informational it will only take a short time to fully learn the Piano. ... show more
