  • Excellent piano teaching tool, incredibly thorough reference guide, and star-studded fun read!
Format: Paperback
I am actually a professional musician as well as a piano teacher, and I just had to check this out. Tad Sisler covers everything from the circle of fifths to how to get a gig! He covers every aspect of learning an instrument. He starts at the absolute beginning (what options there are for any budget when purchasing a piano/keyboard, how to position your hands, what are the names of the notes, etc). He walks the reader through the history of the piano, as well as his own history as a pro musician, including photos and stories of his many celebrity friends. Page by page, he advances the pianist, explaining the circle of fifths, modes, scales, and even suggesting essential, classic practice excercises such as Hanon's. He guides the reader through different styles of music like blues, jazz, and rock and helps with chord progressions and how to practice. Then he even guides you to the performance part--how to get a gig, how to market, how to record your own music, how to handle a live audience. A very enjoyable and astonishingly thorough guide to get you from "never played and don't have a piano" to heading off to a gig! ... show more

  • Written by a real "player"
Format: Paperback
Piano and Keyboard Mastery by Tad Sisler is a comprehensive and well-rounded resource for those serious about improving their piano skills. Its holistic approach, covering both technical and musical aspects of piano playing, sets it apart from many other books I've read on the subject. Tad Sisler has been playing professionally for decades with a list of who's who in Los Angeles. He understands the artform as well as the "business". Whether you're a beginner looking to build a strong foundation or an intermediate player striving to refine your technique, Sisler's methods are invaluable tools in your musical journey. Sisler doesn’t merely focus on technical proficiency but also nurtures a deeper understanding of the instrument and the music. His writing is clear and accessible, making the book suitable for both beginners and advanced players who want to refine their technique. ... show more

  • A comprehensive book.
Format: Paperback
Some of the topics are not thoroughly explained.

  • Piano Mastery written by someone who's BTDT
Format: Paperback
I've followed Tad Sisler's musical career for decades. He has truly been there, done that. In this book, he lays out what you need to successfully master the piano. More than just 'how the play', Tad helps you in every step from the 'I think I'd like to learn to play' through choosing an instrument to learning to read music as well as giving you hints to help you motivate yourself through the rough spots. Whether you're just starting out or if you're looking to take that next step, this book will help. My favorite quote: “There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.” ― J. S. Bach Tad will help you hit the right keys at the right time. ... show more

  • I am so glad I got this book!
Format: Paperback
I am so glad I got this book! I’ve been playing piano 3 to 4 nights a week for decades and lately lost some of my enthusiasm and energy, but this author has inspired me and given me direction. Piano and Keyboard Mastery is amazing because it talks to YOU no matter where you are in your music career, if you’re just beginning or to people like me who have been at it for a long time. If you ever wished you could play piano better or learned types of music you’ve never played before - read this book, it’s stories, it’s learning exercises, and you will succeed. Thank you Tad Sisler! ... show more
