  • It works - one cable does it all.
This review is about 272P7VUBNB. I'm using it with MacBook Pro 16" 2019, macOS 10.15.3. The plan was to use it as an office 4k 60Hz monitor which also provides power, Ethernet and USB-A for this laptop. Happy to report that everything works as planned and as they described - I plug exactly one USB-C cable to my macbook and it gets power, monitor, wired network, keyboard, mouse and couple of transient USB devices like phones through USB hub. There are two things you'll have to do though. 1. Make sure you have USB 2.0 enabled in the monitor settings, this is actually default. USB 3.2 will limit your refresh rate to 30Hz and it's awful. 2. Get a better USB-C <-> USB-C cable. Unfortunately Philips screwed this up. They throw a cheap one to the box and it can't provide enough bandwidth to pass 4k@60Hz - you'll be stuck with those 30Hz. I've used another one, from my USB-C external SSD drive, and it work perfectly. There is no need to install any drivers, hack anything or click anything while holding magic buttons. macOS recognized it immediately and you can choose default or scaled resolution up to full 4k as you wish, just like with built-in display. Both displays work fine at max resolution at the same time, even though for this monitor I stepped it down a little so fonts are not so tiny. Everything still looks very sharp and smooth. I do photography and was pleased to see printed calibration report in the box. ... show more

  • Philips Brilliance 272P7VUBNB 27" Monitor, 4K UHD IPS
For my purposes, an excellent buy. I was on the verge of replacing an aging imac, but then pretty much by accident found out about the capabilities of these "new" monitors with USB-C inputs. No doubt I'm plenty out of date with my tech knowlege, but simply by connecting my much more recent macbook via (the supplied!) USB-C cable and adding a ($50) third party bluetooth keyboard and ($30) mouse, bingo, a fully functional desktop system! Single USB-C cable not only drives the monitor (with the macbook closed) but also charges the laptop, AND allows it to run regular USB peripherals (I have an external HD for backups and a scanner) through the monitors built in hub .... WITCHCRAFT! The sharpest, brightest, clearest screen I've ever owned and plug and play out of the box. Included a whole bunch of other cable as well as the very chunky USB-C. To boot, my computer life is all on one unit ... honestly can't see why anyone wouldn't want to save the grand or more and use this setup rather than buy an imac. For novices like me, the only thing I'd note is that the speaker has no speakers, so you'll need headphones or external to connect. Fantastic product from Philips. ... show more

  • Nice monitor with good customer support
I purchased 4 of these Philips monitors 3 years ago. Good picture quality, features, and they have been great. However, one of the 4 did develop a defect (intermittent vertical line) a few weeks ago. I contacted customer support and after a few emails, they sent out a new replacement monitor within a week. They pre-paid the return shipping for the defective monitor and it was an easy transaction. I would definitely recommend this monitor and have no concerns about ordering future Philips monitors. ... show more

  • Poorly designed and incompatable product.
I purchased two of these monitors, one has started to fail in less then a year. It is incompatible with a CalDigit TB4 hub. Vendor was indeed aware that this product has issues and informed me that they no longer carry it and my warranty had expired after 90 days. Both vendor Xtrasaver and Philips were not helpful in resolving the issue. Amazon customer service did however do their best find a reasonable accommodation to the situation. ... show more

  • Setup was fiddly, but wonderful afterward
It took a bit of hackery (search "one key hidpi") to make this work as a "retina" display on my 2016 MacBook Pro, but once I did, it's a thing of beauty. One cable connects my laptop to a screen, keyboard, mouse, and network, *and* charges it. The screen is beautiful, bright, and sharp. One minor complaint: it does not have built-in speakers. Also I had to switch its USB port configuration in the OSD menu from 2 to 3 and back to 2 again before it would run at a 60Hz refresh rate. ... show more

  • wonderful monitor with excellent guarantee and great seller
I connected the monitor to a CPU and turned it on. Left it on 24/7 to test both the monitor and the connection for function and energy sleep modes. This is a highly rated monitor for features and warranty by PC magazine. The size is terrific to fit the desktop space. It swivels sideways and up and down. Nice. Easy to position for viewing. I have attached a laptop using the USB-c port and it was likewise easy to use as a docking station. Again very nice. The seller was very good. The monitor arrived earlier than the scheduled date. The seller gave me time to try the monitor for a couple of weeks before they asked about the service and the product. I like having time to evaluate before anyone attempts to rush me about products. I highly recommend the seller and the product. ... show more

  • 4K Not worth it for regular office work, Too Small (this is for the 27inch 4K USB-C model)
Bought this as an external display for my 2019 15" Macbook Pro. Paid around $350. Looks gorgeous when connected to my Macbook Pro via the included USB-C Cable. Charges the laptop as well and serves as a dock, which is really handy. I only have to have one thing plugged in to my laptop at a given time, and I don't have to have another dedicated charger at my desk. When using the monitor at 4K resolution, icons and text are too small. I typically use the macbook display settings to scale down to 1440, which is perfect for me. (maybe indicates I should have gotten a 1440 monitor, but oh well). Much, much, much better than the 24inch acer 1080 monitor I was using. Summary: USB-C is nice. 4k is not really practical for everyday use. Would go for a nice 1080 or 1440 monitor if you aren't going to be gaming or doing graphics/video editing. 27 inch is a nice size, 32 would probably be too big. ... show more
