  • Best choice for replacing have century old shower handles
If you are looking at these then you might be in the same spot as me. I just had my shower re-tiled and thought all I would have to do is go down to my local hardware store and buy new handles.....and I was WRONG. I was able to find out the handles that I had where Pfister style handles and from what I was told I can only replace with Pfister hardware again. I contacted Pfister and narrowed down my choice to this model...not much to choose from but hey better than the 30 year old handles that were currently on it. First of all let me say that the Amazon Prime shipping is AMAZING. Ordered it on Saturday and on my front porch by MONDAY AFTERNOON! The kit is pretty strait forward but you WILL need a specialty tool in order to get out the seats that are in the valve, you can buy this from home depot (Amazon I would suggest making this a suggestion as additional things to buy), Getting the seats out is really easy and I have read that if you do not get them out it could leak. No since in taking a chance. I would also get some pipe dope or Teflon tape when installing the valve. One trick that you can do is switch around the valve sleeve to get a closer or father away from the wall to make it look nice. On my shower I was able to do the smaller side but my tub required it to be flipped around for the longer stem cover. I personally used a dab of silicon around the round flange that fits on the wall. pretty easy install and it looks good. Just one thing and it has been mentioned on here. If you are using the longer side of the sleeve it does stick out from the wall a little bit farther but not too bad....BUT there is no other choice that I was able to find. Good luck and happy modding :) ... show more

  • Great PF rebuild Kit.
i own a home build in 1955. PF valve assemblies were used in both bathrooms. We read the instructions, looked at the diagrams, turned off the water supply and proceeded to remove the old leaking PF knobs, valve assemblies, and seats. At first I thought that the new valves would never fit in the old seat assembly in the wall. I was prepared to tear apart the wall to remove and replace the seat assembly but The install instructions were an excellent source of information. Removing the valve seats required a 5/16 square billet. not easy to find at most hardware stores. However a little ingenuity I fabricated ground down a 5/16 billet from1/2 inch billet to make the tool needed to remove the valve seats. I required a pipe wrench and monkey grease to remove the hot water side. The replacement of the valve seats is critical if you expect the PF faucet not to leak. We removed the old valve seats and I glad i did because they were damaged. Using the billet, installing the new seats went well, with a little pipe thread seal compound on the threads. Be sure to use all of the gaskets and install them in the right sequence. . Look at the exploded diagrams to see the sequence. read the instructions as well. With a little suffering, the project was accomplished and we were able to use the 1955 base in the wall. Thanks PF, it is smart engineering, and corporate commitment to offer such a high quality kit to upgrade my bath and shower. ... show more

  • These handles look nice and feel very solid
We wanted to update the look of our tub/shower without re-doing any tile or replacing the old 2 handle Pfister valve body in the wall. These handles look nice and feel very solid. The stems and handles were a perfect fit for our old valve. Note that the handles do stick out from the flanges a little more than in the pictures I'd seen online, but I think that this just varies based on how far back the valve body sits in the wall. The matching shower arm and flange are nice too. The finish is very nice. I had this kit installed along with the matching tub spout and Avalon sink faucet which has matching handles, and I think it all looks great! It's nice that they have this handle upgrade for old valves that still matches a new sink faucet. I had a plumber install them and he said everything went on the old valve easily and fit perfectly. ... show more

  • Looks good Brushed Nickel, but would be better if not so far from the wall. Torque's the valve stem if not careful.
Works well, but handle sticks out too far from the wall, tends to put torque on the valve stem unless you're careful.

  • What a difference! Look for P-P on the old body to assure compatibility
Like many, I had no idea what brand valve was in my shower. Desperately needing to refurbish everything after over 30 years of hard water and hard water stain remover and not relishing the idea of a total replacement with soldering and all, I went looking to see what would work. I saw these, and they looked similar. Then, I noticed the "P-P" on the side of one valve in the photo. I'd seen that before, on mine. And now I know it stands for "Price-Pfister." Yup. it's the right kit. The install went great. I'd removed all the old components in advance (my shower has separate shut-off valves behind the access panel, so I didn't have to turn the water off to the whole house), so I got all the new stuff installed in around an hour the day it arrived. As others have noted, they do stick out more than the old ones, but that doesn't really bother me. No more dripping. No more water coming out at the handles (due to worn out packing) and creating a hard water calcification build-up. I've read some of the negative reviews, and most come in one of three categories: 1) They tried using this with a non-Pfister system. Not Pfister's or Amazon's fault. And now you know how to tell. 2) They just plain didn't know what they were doing, which is hard since the instructions were quite clear to me. Plus, you can find YouTube videos on replacing the valves and seats that will help. Again, not Pfister's or Amazon's fault. Take a look at the YouTube videos to see if this is a project within your capabilities. Even ones for other brands that are two-handle are pretty applicable. 3) Maybe they got that rare manufacturing defect. It happens. Send it back for exchange. Ok, that is Pfister's fault. But at this price, I'd take the chance again, as the defects seem rare based on reviews here. ... show more
