First of all, a little about cotton: According to an article on the Internet, Peruvian Pima Cotton is “…prized for its exceptional softness and brilliant luster, as well as its durability. One touch is all it takes to show you just how luxurious a cotton can be.” About eight years ago, I bought “Supima” cotton sheets from Macy’s. “Supima” is a trade name for pima cotton grown in the U.S. The sheets were and still are, after eight years of use, divinely soft and silky and the finish is silky and lusterous in apperarance. I still marvel at how wonderfully luxurious they feel, even after years of laundering without fabric softener. The only problem is the pricetag: $180 PER SHEET! (Fortunately, you can frequently find them on sale.) My Macy’s sheets should last years more, but when I recently acquired got a second house, I found myself needing to buy new sheets. On Amazon.com I found these Peruvian pima cotton sheets for less than $55 per sheet. Thinking I would receive sheets very similar to Macy’s, I ordered them and eagerly anticipated their delivery, expecting comperable sheets at a fraction of the price. When the sheets arrived I was pleased to see that they were clearly a high-quality product, but straight out of the package they were very stiff and slightly scratchy -- not at all soft. I figured that laundering would solve the problem, but after several washings, alas, the stiffness remains unchanged. Maybe, as some other reviewers have said, they will become increasingly soft with age, but the Macy’s sheets offered instant gratification right out of the package. Peruvian Pima does indeed enjoy a reputation for being the softest cotton in the world, but in my experience, the U.S. Supima cotton sheets are much, much softer and more supple. As I said, the Peruvian sheets are high quality. The fabric is very heavy, tightly woven, and the construction is first rate. I suspect they will be extremely durable and will last for many years. So, if you prefer sheets that are “crisp” as opposed to “silky,” then you should be extremely pleased with these. However, if you want luxurious softness you probably should look elsewhere. ... show more

I am a actually pretty disappointed in these sheets. When I received them they appeared to be very smooth almost satin like, which I was looking for so my bed clothes didn't get twisted up in them. Once they were washed as instructed they were just like my cheap cotton sheets. I had expected that for this kind of money, I would have generous sized sheets and pillow cases. The pillow cases barely cover a standard size pillow. The sheets fit but with zero extra to tuck in. If I had known this I would have returned them but they say...wash first! Now I'm stuck with sheets I don't really like and I paid a lot for them. 😕 ... show more

If you're looking for the crisp, fresh feel of hotel-type sheets....keep looking. I'm not sure why these sheets have so many high ratings, they are really just so-so. Kind of scratchy and with an unpleasant smell right out of the package. Not worth the price.

I buy many things on Amazon for two houses that I own. One in the US and another in Mexico. I do my very best to buy goods that are high quality and will not require troublesome returns or financial loss. The reviews are important to my buying decisions, but sometimes it just pays to choose the highest price item and hope that the higher price tag will equal higher quality. The purchase of these sheets (and 2 extra sets of pillowcases) proved to be one of those occasions where spending more money did not equal higher quality. My recommendation is ---- BUYER BEWARE and look for another brand. Why? - after the 3rd wash, the hems on these sheets started to fall apart, by the 4th wash the hems did fall apart. As any decent hotel would do, if this happened, we will be throwing these sheets away and take a complete loss on them. We purchased these for our home in Mexico, and returning them at this point would mean more money on couriers than its worth. Bottom line, if you are reading this - look for a higher quality product. The material seems good, but the workmanship is poor. Overall, if a product represents a total loss, then it should not deserve more than a single star. ... show more

UPDATE 7/2021: I was shocked when I saw that I ordered our Peru sateen sheets in 2017! We have literally used them pretty much everyday for all these years (wash them during the day and put them back on at night) and they are still perfect! No threads unravelling, no elastic degradation, they are basically like new only softer! A year after that purchase I bought the Duvet cover and more pillowcases to match. Perfect! After all the sheets I've had over the years where the fitted sheet gets threadbare and tears after a year or two, I am BEYOND THIRILLED at the Quality of these sheets! So much so, that I'm going to invest in another set just in case we need new ones someday! Thank you Peru Pima for making such a beautiful, high quality product. You're the BEST! Original Review: SO far we love out new sheets. Very soft and substantial/durable feeling, yet not too hot and not too cool. :) the cream color is very nice and they are a delight to slip into at bedtime.
