I'm not one to drink the Kool-aid on anything. If you're into doctor-formulated skincare or overly-hyped, high-end skincare, you've undoubtedly heard of Dr. Perricone's "Perricone MD" brand and the Cold Plasma line, which is also heavily sold on shopping networks. I've tried a few of the products, but never went running back for more. Why? Well, let's pull back the veil ... On occasion, but rarely, am I a fan of "illusion" skincare. I want stuff that really works and repairs, heals, transfoprms the skin for real. Especially when they cost this much. Take a good, hard look at the ingredient list of this overpriced face cream -- especially the all-important top 5 ingredients -- which matter, and the truth will become clear: The primary ingredient is water. WATER. The 2nd ingredient is a silicone ingredient. The 3rd ingredient is a common with anti-flammatory properties. The 4th ingredient is another silicone replacement. The 5th ingredient is a humectant (moisture retaining) and widely considered a skin irritant. And that's the top 5. Nothing miraculous. The "moisturizing" ingredients are substandard: vegetable glycerides, vegetable oil, petrolatum (Vaseline) sunflower oil, soybean lipids. Nothing impressive there either. Hydrogenated oils can be comedogenic (clog pores) and are used to increase shelf life of a product so it doesn't "go bad" quickly. All they really do is form lipids, which are oils and waxes in this case, and don't go beneath skin's surface. These are things with great slickness, "slip", emollience -- but the effect is only superficial. They feel great, but that's all. None of those ingredients are transformative or will change/improve your skin. And not for a $200 price tag. And a small jar to boot. Frankly, I was surprised at the unimpressive list of ingredients, but then again, you're paying for the name. These same ingredients can be found in much cheaper, or drugstore brands. Would you rate it as high if it was in another jar without the Perricone name? I think not. It feels nice, and that's about all.
