  • Great starter set, perfect for preschoolers
Size: 12 Count (Pack of 1)
Nice tube watercolors. 5 ml is a little small but still reasonable. They lost a star because the pigment and binder had separated a bit in the tube, but a little kneading fixed that and in any case it's pretty common in cheap watercolors. The colors are nice and bright and the pigment load is pretty good (not as good as artist grade, but what did you expect?), though I noticed some of the colors (the light green in particular) are maybe not as transparent as is ideal. Overall, I'm quite happy. One of the other reviewers said they had trouble mixing to get subtle colors, but I have no idea what that reviewer is talking about. After seeing that review, I did some testing to be sure that I can mix a good range of pinks and purples (I've noticed in cheap craft paints that mixed purples tend to get muddy) and a bunch of browns and skin tones, and I succeeded without any trouble. I did feel the lack of burnt umber (the brown included is a medium brown, not a dark one) but small amounts of prussian blue and/or black seemed to be able to make up the difference. Thinning the paint for washes also worked fine. I got these mostly for my daughters - I love to be able to give them watercolors, but if I give them pan watercolors, they mix all the colors together and I get lots of "preschool gray." With tube watercolors, I can give them two or three colors on a plastic plate, which seems to work much better for in-depth exploration. I usually put a little of each color on the plate, mix a few drops of water with each one, and then just give them a brush. (Masking off the edges of the postcard or paper also helps the final painting look more polished - perfect for sending to Grandma.) They love it, I love watching them, and it's nice to know that the paints are AP-rated and won't cause problems if they put their brushes in their mouths. ... show more

  • Amazing coverage
Size: set of 18
I used these paints at my granddaughter’s house and loved them, so got my own set. They go on well and you can build up color with layers! Highly recommend!

  • Good for beginners
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
I can’t really say if these are great but they suit my purpose. I am a very beginner in watercolor. These were recommended by a YouTuber but I don’t remember which one. So far they are working great for me as I practice glazing, water control and other techniques. A little bit goes a long way. I practice everyday and I imagine these will last me 9-12 months depending on the size of the piece I’m working on. Right now I am using 6x9 cotton bee paper. Once I feel I’m better I will try the other “better” products that I’m told to use. 95% of my stuff goes in the trash, I can’t afford to do that on paper like Arches. So, from a beginners standpoint I like these ALOT more than the cheap paints from my craft store. I’m learning better water control & layering and they don’t dry chalky. ... show more

  • Good for student work
Size: set of 18
I've used these for preparing sample work for art workshop participants. Good for both wet on wet and dry brush techniques.

  • Perfect for grades 5 & up and beginner adults
Size: set of 18
Great student or beginner quality water colors at affordable price. Pentel is a solid brand that's priced perfectly for a beginner or young school student (Grades 5 and up). The colors are rich and they blend well. Not gritty or watery. This set includes 18 colors which is great if you don't want to bother with blending or don't feel confident yet in your color mixing abilities. But since the price is so good, these are also perfect for experimenting with different painting techniques, color blending, paint brushes, etc. Cleans up easily with mild detergent (I just use dish soap on my cheaper synthetic brushes). This kit should last months and is perfect for trying that new technique you might have seen on YouTube or if you're taking a water color painting class for the first time. ... show more

  • Beloved Japanese Company
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
So happy to have bought this traditional (vintage to me) They're creamy rich, of course I know this are for hobbist, student, for people wanting to do crafts. It's worth the little money and especially if you can use them as one single layer on the paper.

  • Good value!
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
Beautiful colors, and honestly worth your money, especially if you’re a beginner artist. I previously had the Daler and Rowney tubed set, and the watercolors were very streaky, and there were noticeable grains and textures. With this set smooth washes are attainable! And the color variety is excellent. ... show more

  • Good quality for the price
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
So, I'm super not a good artist (quite new to it still) so forgive how bad my example is. I'm even newer to painting, so I'm not the greatest at figuring out how to layer and shade and all that stuff, but I'm pleased with these paints.
