  • PENN Spinfisher VI Spinning Fishing Reel
Style: Svii - New Model Size: 3500
recently purchased the PENN Spinfisher VI Spinning Fishing Reel, and so far, I am quite impressed with its performance. Here's why I would give it a four-star rating: Durable and Reliable: The construction of this fishing reel is top-notch. It feels solid and sturdy in my hands, giving me confidence that it can withstand tough fishing conditions. I have used it in both freshwater and saltwater, and it has held up exceptionally well. Smooth Drag System: The drag system on the Spinfisher VI is incredibly smooth and consistent. It provides me with the necessary power to handle big fish, allowing for a seamless fight and minimizing the chances of losing my catch. The drag knob is also easy to adjust, making it convenient in the heat of the moment. Excellent Line Capacity: The line capacity of this reel is impressive. It can hold a significant amount of line, giving me ample opportunity to target a variety of fish species. Additionally, the line lays nicely on the spool, preventing tangles and improving casting distance. Anti-Corrosion Protection: The Spinfisher VI reel incorporates a sealed body and spool design, preventing saltwater and other contaminants from entering its core components. This feature is excellent for those who frequently fish in saltwater environments, as it helps to prolong the lifespan of the reel. Overall, the PENN Spinfisher VI Spinning Fishing Reel is a reliable and durable option for any angler. It provides smooth performance, offers excellent line capacity, and incorporates anti-corrosion protection. While I am very satisfied with this reel and would highly recommend it, I am withholding the fifth star due to its price point, which may be a bit higher compared to some other options on the market. However, if you are looking for a high-quality spinning fishing reel with great performance, the Spinfisher VI is definitely worth considering. ... show more

  • Smooth reel, satisfying drag, quality build.
Style: Ssvi - Old Model Size: 3500
Feels like a Penn Slammer at a better price point. I have 3 of these from 3500-6500 in both the liveliner and standard configuration. They all function great so far. I hadn’t bought Penn products in years because it felt like most of there products didn’t meet the quality standard that Penn was known for in the past. These justify the gold bling and higher price tag over something like a kastking or piscifun with a better feeling product. Only time will tell if they hold up to the saltwater like the old Penn reels did. Would have had 4 of these, but I had to return one I bought used from Amazon warehouse because it came without the bearing cap opposite the handle. Would still buy again, and plan to buy another one to replace the one I had to return. ... show more

  • Quality Reel
Style: Ssvi Live Liner - Old Model Size: 6500
Used for surf fishing, these reels can take the abuse of salt and sand and they just keep on working. I've been upgrading some of my gear which is 30+ years old with these reels. The live liner feature keeps large fish from dragging your rod and reel away into the ocean never to be seen again. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Surf Fishing Dream Cast
Style: Ssvi Long Cast - Old Model Size: 6500
The new hardened, CNC'd, Brass Maingear is an awesome upgrade to the VII 5500 LC. I have two of them spooled up with 300 yds 30# power pro (the two rods in holders in the middle in the picture). The long cast gets me 30 to 50 more casting yards because of its design and line lay. People on the beach are just awed at the distances you can reach. I have mine paired with OTB 12' 2-4oz perfect Pompano setups. They cast further, reel in smoother, and are IPX5 sealed. I know guys that have Spinfisher SS's from I think the 70's that are still ripping lips in the surf. These are workhorses with some luxury features. I will only use Penn SPinfishers, Slammers, or Authorities in the salt and surf. No other reels stand up to Penns for the price and longevity. ... show more

  • Six months on and I still love it... even with the cost.
Style: Ssvi - Old Model Size: 2500
I've had this reel for six months, so I can't speak to its true long term durability. But I can say it has already really impressed me. It has been my only surf rod for six months, going every single week, and often going two or three times a week. I'm constantly in the sea spray, usually getting waves in the ankle or knee, but a few times out to my waist. I've dropped it in the sand a number of times and when I tripped, the whole rod and reel was dragged out in a wave with me chasing after it. If I hadn't just cast as far out as I could, I'd have packed it up and taken it home to soak in fresh water and hope for the best. But since I had 50 or more yards out I reeled it back and it worked fine so I kept fishing. I try to remember to rinse it in the hose when i get home, but I forget sometimes. I've never had to open it up to clean or lube it. I waited six months becasue that's the longest I've had any of my $20-$60 reels have lasted. None of them have been in good shape and all were torn open and cleaned a couple times by then. This one is still smoother and better then most of those other reels started out at day one. Drag is still great, it is more then smooth enough, casts great, tangle or get caught on my braid. Really other then being a little bit more expensive then I'd like I have not had a single problem, it doesn't snap closed on a cast, it doesn't grind or give me any strange sensations that i might confuse for a bit or cause me to miss a bite, the drag doesn't stick, all things I've had problems with on other reels. I've caught a couple hundred small-ish surf perch, at least a few dozen spotted bay bass and a few rays and other fighters, so I'm not testing its limits or anything but it simply has not let me down in any way. If it died on me now, I'd still consider buying it as a luxury item. If it lasts a year or more, it would probably be cheaper than the several cheaper reels I'd have bought in a year. ... show more
