  • Great little kayak
Color: Fade Fireman Red Yellow
One year anniversary with my little Pelican, I've been enjoying it so much. As a strictly recreational paddler, 5' 1" retiree with back issues, this was the best choice for me. I can load it myself on the top of my old Honda Civic equipped with a soft roof rack and cam straps. I added some pad eyes for attachment points fore and aft, can now attach paddle leash, water bottle, etc. with some rope & carabiners. I upgraded the seat with a mesh lumbar support in back and a nice gel pad attached with heavy duty Velcro to the hard plastic. This kayak has gone 5 miles to 200 plus miles with me all summer, and I'm very pleased with my purchase. ... show more

  • Bye Bye to Kayak Rentals
Color: Fade Fireman Red Yellow
At 76 and 5'3" with major lower back problems, this kayak works well on smooth water paddling. Although there are a few more cons over pros, some are minor ie cup holder.. I could not paddle without this kayak so I am grateful they make it. Will certainly purchase another one when this one wears out. 5 stars would acknowledge places to hook things onto, foot pedals, and a paddle holder. Pros 1, 8 feet long and fits completely into a Honda Civic Hatchback (diagonally with front passenger seat down and headrest off) Major important to me 2. Light weight (31 pounds approx) 3. Has bungees on top of stern 4. Has good handles on front and back 3. Makes launching easy bc of its weight 4. Pelican brand 5. Kayak rental fee is $18/hour and $27/2 hours - quickly closing in on break even point. Cheaper to own. Cons: 1. No foot pedals (My legs are positioned in a diamond so knees can rest on each side of kayak) 2. No paddle holder - I crunch legs towards abdomen and it holds the paddle perfectly 3. Padded backrest but not seat part (folded old yoga mats work great) 4. Crummy cup holder on bow and looks like a half finished one In the cockpit seat 5. the kayak is not super stable with wakes so be careful 6. Might not be a good kayak for much taller paddlers 7. No cockpit handles or places to attach stuff and this is a challenge when trying to strap the kayak onto a 2 wheel cart. I'm not giving up on this one and will get it eventually. ... show more

  • Perfect for smaller paddler, 5’2” or so. Tracks just fine despite the size and easy to carry.
Color: Fade Fireman Red Yellow
I’m a beginner with kayaking and this size kayak allowed me to be able to get this kayak IN my car (not ON the car) and to manage it myself. Goals achieved! I’m 5’2” and probably couldn’t be much bigger, but this seems like a perfect price point and size for me to get started and see if it’s something I’ll stick with. It tracked just fine; honestly, only a little more side to side pull than the longer (10’) rentals I’ve been playing with. Feels a little heavier than 27 pounds; likely because of some awkwardness, but still very manageable. After one time out, nice upgrades would be some side handles to more easily carry and foot holds to push against when paddling. Regardless, it’s a keeper! ... show more

  • Toss in the truck and go
Color: Fade Turquoise White
I got this little gem a little while ago and have gone for a couple of spins. It's a fun little kayak you can throw in the back of a truck. You won't need a rack as it's 7.5 ft long. The seat is adjustable and comfortable. The legs...not so much. You'd probably hate it if you were 6 feet tall. There are no foot pegs, like in a whitewater kayak, so your feet slide around. I'll be installing footholds. There are no hip pads, of course, and the opening is too large for a "universal" spray skirt. Since the bow is so short, with any bit of chop and a decent wind, you'll start to fill up the boat. The float bags are just foam blocks that you cannot remove. I imagine that they'll get rather funky in a year, as it's hard to drain the kayak. I just use a towel to sop up the water. Overall it is sturdy, if not a little silly, but hey, it's a 7.5 foot, 25 pound kayak you use in the summer on glass and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If you want to bomb down a class 5 rapid, why are you hanging out in the kid's pool? Also, it's not really meant for fishing. There's what can lightly be called a drink holder, which is a 3/4 impression in molded plastic of a beer can in front of the seat. Your beer will fall out of it. And that would be sad. Very sad. And you'd smell like warm beer the whole trip. ... show more
