Spent a lot of time investigating before making this purchase as this category has so many choices and probably all of the coolers I was looking at are every bit as good. Pelican coolers are certainly no real secret; their reputation for quality build and styling have made them one of the top contenders for consumers wanting a Yeti-esque, but not necessarily Yeti branded, cooler. A styrofoam cooler would handle 99% of my cooler needs but are challenged with heavier loads and their lack of durability couldn't be good for the environment. In regards to value for money- unless you need a cooler that truly is high performance- you probably know this is as much a vanity purchase as utilitarian and nothing in this segment is worth the cost- BUT for what it is, it is really a great cooler and worth every bit as much, or more, than any other cooler in this price bracket. I was surprised with the quality of construction- surpassing what I had expected- especially the attachment of the handle (had concerns before ordering). The storage capacity is cavernous compared to what I had expected. In regards to functionality and ice retention- it meets or exceeds my demands And it looks great!     • Stays cold but hate the shape

Got this for a long cross-country trip in a UHaul. I figured that the shape would be space saving, which it is, but it also tips over easily, so that’s not good. Not the most sturdy for road trips. Our drinks/food were still pretty cold when we stopped each night. I only used a 1# and a 2# Pelican ice pack, refroze them in our motel rooms as we slept. Probably would have been a lot better with two 2# instead of a 1# with a 2#. Or just plain ice. We probably only opened it up 2-3 times per 12-15 hour day. The button latches are real nice, so easy to open and close that it feels like it can’t possibly be sealed up as well as it actually is - that alone makes these coolers worth the, honestly, pretty extravagant price. The cooler works really really well, but the tapered shape is impractical for anything I’d use it for. I will probably get another Pelican cooler in a different size and shape later on.
