I bought this after reading that it was on par or better than the well known brand that is supposed to be the best. I cannot say that I tested it the way you are supposed to and I have not used it during the really hot days where it was in high heat for a long time. In the house after I used it I still saw ice a day or more later so that is good. Perhaps I should wait until I use it more and I suppose I will repost once I do test it after an all day use. But in one instance I saw condensation on the outside of the cooler. This to me is not a good sign. perhaps it was a unique circumstance and it is probably not because I got the outside cold in my air conditioned house. I keep it at 78 degrees during the day in my house. Most of my uses so far were pretty short term or the longest time I used it was when I was staying at a bed and breakfast for some drinks. It did seem to work better than my standard coolers but I cannot say that I really had it loaded with ice to know how long it would last and I was opening it several times. It is heavy by comparison to my other coolers but I intend to use it on fishing trips and also to hold drinks when I cycle and come back to it sitting in my hot truck when I need more drinks. I have used it on a few hour ride mid day where the truck was at least 100 or more degrees and everything stayed cold but it was only filled with a smaller amount of ice, I will say that I like the latch design better than what a lot of the other high performance coolers have. It fits in my back seat and to get something out of the cooler from the front seat is not all that difficult. So great fro road trips ... show more

Spent a lot of time investigating before making this purchase as this category has so many choices and probably all of the coolers I was looking at are every bit as good. Pelican coolers are certainly no real secret; their reputation for quality build and styling have made them one of the top contenders for consumers wanting a Yeti-esque, but not necessarily Yeti branded, cooler. A styrofoam cooler would handle 99% of my cooler needs but are challenged with heavier loads and their lack of durability couldn't be good for the environment. In regards to value for money- unless you need a cooler that truly is high performance- you probably know this is as much a vanity purchase as utilitarian and nothing in this segment is worth the cost- BUT for what it is, it is really a great cooler and worth every bit as much, or more, than any other cooler in this price bracket. I was surprised with the quality of construction- surpassing what I had expected- especially the attachment of the handle (had concerns before ordering). The storage capacity is cavernous compared to what I had expected. In regards to functionality and ice retention- it meets or exceeds my demands And it looks great! Very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend to anyone searching for the Yeti alternative. ... show more
