I don't know if my rating reflects that I was ravenous for a hot meal after another day of October wilderness hiking as the sun was going down, but damn it was GREAT! Filtered water from the lake. Peak gave good prep instructions, it reconstituted well, and it was yummy! It warmed me up, and got me ready for the next 11 miles of hiking the following day. I overpacked though. My pack was close to 30% of my body weight. Ugh. I'm sure I'm not the first hiker who made this packing mistake. Couldn't wait to unload / eat the food weight from my pack at each campsite.

I tried this out in my last backpacking trip. The portion size was large enough to fill me up for the night and the flavor was spot on. The texture of the beef crumbles was very odd, however. I let this sit for a good long while and the beef never softened. It was like eating pasta with beef croutons. Strangest thing. I wouldn’t say it was unpleasant but it was definitely something to get used to. For the amount of protein in this, I’d say it’s worth trying, as it really was tasty. Just be ready for some crunch in your pasta.

Having been a lone backpacker throughout my life 'know' I've eaten countless 'High Dollar' Freeze Dried 'Far Less Than Tasty' pouch meals I've suffered through after leaving the house, bar 'All' the rest tonight's 'REAL' Hamburger "Beef Pasta Marinara" is this 'tastiest' and most Pleasant Feeling In My Mouth Freeze Dried Meals I've 'ever' eaten and I 'Truly Enjoy'd Eating both servings, I am 'Totally Amazed & Pleasantly Surprised! If I could attempt and complete an Appalachian Trail Thru Hike as I had scheduled back in '03 before I broke my back through 'five vertebra' on my last semi truck trip before I was to leave for the trail :( I doubt I would have dropped off 'any' of the 'Peak Refuel' Meals I would have been sent from home in the many hiker boxes along the way to the summit of Katahdin! I will now be buying several of Peak Refuel Meals each month to store for my two year supply of emergency food, forget about 'all' the rest of the countless other corporations selling 'Textured Vegetable Protein' (whatever it's made of) in all their tasteless 'good for twenty years' freeze dried meals for 'Just In Case,' now I've found one that uses 'Real Hamburger' that feels good in my mouth and is very tasty and very filling at the same time, Thank You Peak Refuel :)

This is the best freeze dried meal I've ever had. I've been testing a couple brands to see what I would like to take on a hunt later this year. I cooked this meal with my camp stove just to do it. But I found this meal to be legitimately delicious. I'll add I ate this under normal circumstances, I wasn't starving after a hike or being in the woods all week. This is a quality meal and will be in my pack on the mountain. The only problem I have is they are a bit pricey, but I suppose you pay for quality.
