This is pretty much a copy cat of Grandpa's Weeder and was under over half the cost of Grandpa's Weeder when I bought mine during a limited time sale. This works best with weeds in relatively moist or loosely tilled soil because softer soil allows the root to be extracted easier. Dry soil makes it harder to extract deep rooted weeds so if you have an area that is dry and you have deep rooted weeds, it's best to wet or pre-soak the soil. The claws that digs down and grabs ahold of the root are about 2 3/4" long so setting the weeder directly over the weed and laying it flush with the ground will give the claws maximum depth and grabbing power. I bought this so I wouldn't have to get down on my knees to dig up the roots of the weeds. This extends the amount of time I can spend weeding and it saves the wear and tear on my back bending over. Bottom line is that it makes pulling weeds a lot easier! The wood pole has a nice finish on it and it's sturdily built, so I'm happy with the build quality.

I hate to weed!! I have hypermobility in my hands and weeding just wrecks me. My hands hurt so badly from the pulling. If I weed, I typically can’t do anything with my hands for a day or two. I saw this and thought, what the heck, let’s give it a try. I got two of these, so that I could work and one of my kids could help. We flew through the work. My daughter made a point to tell me that she loved it too. We worked for two hours and my hands don’t hurt. I’m so glad I bought these.

Can pull weeds if soil conditions and weed type are "perfect." It helps to wear sturdy boots and first water the weed field if you have hard clay type soil. If you have a field of concentrated weeds, you can pull them out 10X faster by hand. After using it for 30 minutes, next day I had a slight limp from stomping the tool into the (sometimes) hard soil. I ask, would using knee-pads give you a limp after 30 minutes? Good news, limp went away after 48 hours. The short “eco-friendly” Bamboo handle does not seem like it is strong enough to last. BTW, last time I checked, a strong wood handle was also "eco-friendly." The one end of the “leverage” stomp bar has what looks like a conventional hand-weeder tip - useful for poking around or if you are down on knee-pads. SHIPPING: The large U5 (B80) box size (40x20x14in) the item is shipped in outweighs any "eco" benefits of Bamboo. Thanks for the giant reusable box and 12ft of wide butcher paper, however I did not need the bubble wrap, nylon ties and display placard.

Works beautifully! I am turning 70 in a couple of weeks and can no longer get down on my knees to pull weeds. (Let's face it, I never could!). Bending over to reach the ground risks landing on my head in the middle of the weed and I HATE using chemicals that kill good "weeds" that I actually want, like beebalm, plantain and other medicinal herbs. My perfect solutions? Papa's Tools heavy duty 4 claw steel head weed puller! Place the claws in the middle of a weed, press down on the lever with your foot which causes the claws to clasp the root. Lean the tool against the lever, which pulls up the weed, root and all. Voila!! One perfectly pulled weed without kneeling! If you missed part of the root, simply repeat the process. I can pull weeds that I'd have to dig all day to get in just a minute. Wearing study gloves means I can grab the weed from the tool and put it in a bucket without damage to my hands--a real plus when pulling thistles. It's so easy to use, perfectly designed to make getting the weed out of the ground and out of the claws simple. The tines are not sharp enough to damage your foot unless you try removing weeds wearing flip flops, but easily penetrates the ground. If you have heavy clay or very hard pack dirt, I'd recommend running your sprinkler over the area to be weeded just long enough to soften the soil without creating mud pies. Bottom line, it works like a charm without breaking the bank.

This is the one you want. With the weed ejector pump. The other one works too, but this is way easier and less dirty. And kinda fun. I tried them both and after pulling one weed I knew this was the keeper. I have a .7 acre lot. Had tons of dandelions this spring. Instead of spraying chemicals everywhere I spent probably 3 hours over the course of a couple weeks pulling them. My yard looks awesome now. This is more environmentally friendly, but it’s also faster to see a result. Instead of waiting days for a weed to die, you just pull it.

This is the best tool I've ever had! It seems more like a toy, because it's actually fun to pull big stubborn weeds with it. I'm in my 70's, 5 feet tall, and small. I ruined my lawn several years ago by spraying weed killer on big weeds. When these large weeds popped up, I didn't want to use any chemicals this time. This tool is very well-made with high-quality materials. I might consider begging my neighbors to let me pull their dandelions!

The best thing ever created. I got a late start in the yard this year. Dandelions EVERYWHERE!!! I was disgusted by it and using the small handheld tool was very tasking. I needed quick results for the eyesores. My uncle suggested this and boy did this thing work! I purchased a second one so my daughter could help. We were able to completely clear out the lawn in a total of two hours (it was bad). Thank goodness we got it taken cared of before the neighbors started to complain.

Love this tool! No more bending down with my weeder hand tool. Super simple and quick. However, it will take a chunk of the soil out around the root of the dandelion (if that's what you are going for). Literally so much you might want to back fill in with a bit of soil. That's why it gets a 4 and not a 5. However, I still love it and until something comes out that can rectify that issue I'm sold on it.
