  • Apartment Dwellers Rejoice!
Style: Amber Yellow
So, a couple years ago we got a portable dishwasher which taught me the joys of portable appliances. So I knew these existed but with a laundry room in the corner of our building just a few doors and a flight of stairs away- we didn't really see the point in getting one. Then I got hurt. Even though the laundry room isn't that far, those stairs otoh were *painful* for me so, since the husband was on the road, we started talking about getting a portable washing machine. We eventually decided against it when the husband changed vocations to a tech gig where he can work from home. He's home to help me so, that kind of killed that. Then 2020 came. And the coin shortage hit. And stuck around for several *months.* And, the conversation came up yet again. Third time is the charm I guess cause, he caved. :D So, these are my initial impressions and if there's anything else I encounter over the coming months, I'll post it below. Is it easy? For us, it worked right out of the box. With an adapter already installed on the kitchen faucet for the dishwasher, the quick release hose fit just fine already-- in fact, the only thing we "had" to buy was a dolly but that was only because we're on the second floor and it's quieter (and slightly easier) to roll in and out of position than the wheels that it already has. Were we on the ground floor, we wouldn't have bothered. So, extra points for the little wheels. They were a nice touch. I also like the separate options- for example it can do just a rinse and spin or even just a spin if you want as well as adjust the water level. These have already proven useful for us since if you're going to overload it (and let's face facts, *everyone* overloads *any* washing machine at *some* point) you can throw it through an extra wash or an extra rinse or whatever. That's actually kinda nice. The handholds were a thoughtful touch as well. As were the little hooks for the power cord and the drain hose. In fact, I really like the drain hose holder thing so that you can just hook it onto something (like a dish rack for example) and not have to worry about it flopping out of the sink. Water pressure is also low enough that it doesn't cause the hose to jerk around either. So, good job on the details. Now, how loud is it? Obviously, the heavier the load-- the louder it's going to be but, so far? With a normal load, it's actually quieter than my dishwasher even when it spins. The only loud thing about it is the beep at the end of the cycle but, honestly? The beep isn't any louder than my microwave or even my instapot. In fact, it's the exact same beep as both my instapot and my dishwasher. Go figure. lol. Point is that in an open concept apartment, the husband can be working his phone job in the living "room" area while the washing machine is in the kitchen and neither customers nor bosses on the phone can hear anything other than the beeps. (He's claiming that a dump truck is backing up outside if he forgets to hit the mute when it comes to an end.) Finally, how much can it wash? Obviously, it's portable so it's not going to handle the same amount as a full sized machine but, otoh, it's not coin operated so you can go to town and wash whenever you want. ;) Basically? I managed to get a Full sized comforter that was a bit on the thin side through with a little babysitting. Yeah, it took a little manipulating of the load partway through and two rinses but, it went through and since that's the largest item that we have in regular use, that's okay. Now, I would probably prefer the coin op for it because while it came out cleaner, I can't bet my life on it coming out as absolutely clean as it can possibly be but again, right now we have a coin shortage and it really needs to be washed once a month at least-- so, we're at "needs must" territory when it comes to that blanket to be honest. Still, point *is* that it's right on that edge so if your blanket/comforter is super thick and/or Queen sized or larger, you're still gonna have to use the laundromat for that item. To be fair though, I honestly don't see how *any* portable washing machine could handle that old comforter of mine with aplomb anyway so, I'm seriously not docking them any for that. In short? It's wonderful. It really, really is. We don't have to "scout" whether or not there's a washer that's available anymore, we don't have to try to track down a bank that's still willing to give out quarters every couple of weeks (fewer and fewer branches seem to be doing that these days even before the shortage), and we don't have to avoid using the dish towels and cloth napkins either. Really, I foresee our paper towel usage go down as a result. So, yeah, I love this thing! I really, really do. :D Edit: We are now into the first part of 2023 and it's still going strong. Here's some more long term things that I've noticed during that time. 1) it is still *really* easy to overdo the soap!!! I blame a lifetime of regular sized washing machines but this thing takes practically almost none. 2) it's also still kind of easy to try to overload it. Again. I blame myself and not the machine for that. Obviously, if you overlaod any machine too much or put in too much soap, you run the risk of getting those dreaded white streaks but a good trick for preventing that is to use the small, collapsable drying rack we bought as my guide because the perfect load seems to be just what that rack holds. Which is a really good guide, actually. As I mentioned before though, it really isn't that big of a deal because we can easily do another load the next day. Frankly, given that by my calculations, this thing has fully paid for itself by the end of 2021 and has been actively saving us a small fortune in this last year.... I am more than okay with that. In fact, since the loads *are* so quick and easily taken care of, we have found ourselves not procrastinating on doing the laundry anymore. :D ... show more

  • FLOODED MY BATHROOM !!!! STOPPED WORKING AFTER 6 MONTHS!!!
Style: Amber Yellow
The media could not be loaded. The flooding incident I was doing a normal load as I always do on this washer , keep in mind I only used 2 settings on this thing, quick wash and standard. I always made sure not to overload it . The amount of clothes shouldn't go any higher than the top of the lint filter . So the water has plenty of room to agitate properly. Also just alittle info , my set up was alittle different as I had mind hooked to my shower using a extra hose and shower diverter, I purchased from home depot. I tried to hook it up to my sink when I first got the washer. But I guess the pressure was too high , because it made my sink leak under the cabinet. So I got the idea from another reviewer to hook up to my shower. I'm lucky because I have extremely good shower pressure way higher pressure than my sink . So I made sure to only turn my shower knob 3 clicks when using the washer . That way the pressure wouldn't be too high and blow off the fill hose. It was just enough pressure , so when the washer was filling up it was a full even stream . Okay now that you got the back story onto the incident I got this washer because I love the idea of sitting and forgetting. Now I'm not talking about leaving the house but ya know going in another room relaxing ,until the washer is done washing. Anyways I was sitting in my living room watching TV. At this point after having the washer 6 months I knew all the noises it would make, when washing , filling and spinning. For the cycle I had it on quick wash . It went thru the wash cycle and first spin perfectly. Then I heard it started to fill up for the rinse cycle. Then I got distracted watching TV again but after awhile I said to myself , damn it's taking longer to fill than usual . ( as it only takes 2-3 minutes to fill depending on the amount of water you use . I always used the water on level 5 . The more water the better your clothes get cleaned and rinsed well. I look down and I seen a trail of water heading in the living room from the bathroom. And I ran to the bathroom and it was a water fall full of water. My whole bathroom was flooded ( I attached a video of the flood ) . It's like the shut off valve that the washer has to control water flow failed because the washer over flowed . And the control panel was completely useless. It was beeping but there was no lights and it didn't work anymore. So now I had 6 gallons of water on my floor to clean up. I had to manually take a large burger King cup I had in my house and try to scoop out as much water as I could from the washer because it would not stop leaking out the bottom . I couldn't drain the washer because at this point the drain hose was useless the washer didn't work at all. Once I scooped enough water out to where the washer was halfway full of water . To make it less heavy so I could pull it out my bathroom . Without the water spilling over out the Top. So at this time I had my dolly under it. So while it was still heavy with the half amount of water it was still easy to pull out my bathroom . So once I got the washer in my living room smoke started coming out the back of the washer and a bad burning smell!!! And the washer was unplugged, so at this point I had to get it out of my apartment before it caught of fire . On the way to the trashcan my useless dolly broke . I'm gonna do a review on that as well . So I was forced to use the also useless 2 wheels that already come installed on the back of the washer and drag it . The rest of the way all the way across the parking lot to my apartment trash can . Worst experience ever. At 5am My hand and arms were so sore . Now onto the pros and cons Cons Back 2 wheels are useless for moving it around unless it's a very short distance . You need a dolly but hopefully a better one than I had Sometimes during wash loads, it's like the washer couldn't balance the clothes out. And it would make a loud crashing at the end of a spin cycle Made my water and electric bill go up by almost 70$ dollars . So energy saver Is a joke. I was only doing 2-3 loads every other day. But the Convenience of not having to drive 20 minutes to the nearest laundry mat outweighed the price tag. Sometimes even tho I only used a small amount of detergent the washer would over suds . And my clothes would be covered in suds. And I had to do multiple rinse cycles just to get all the suds out . And I was using high quality persil or tide detergent which is HE . Unless you have a very deep sink the drain hose must be Tapped down other wise it will fly everywhere and you will have water everywhere happend to me twice . I used gorilla tape and it held the drain house very well . Washer is small depending on the thickness of the clothes and size you can fit a decent amount but this is not for if you are behind on laundry and have a whole basket to do . It's just me and my boyfriend so I got lazy and let my laundry pile up . And let me tell you worse mistake. Took me 7 hours to get the whole basket done. After that I was never lazy again . This washer is good for staying caught up. As I did 2-3 loads every other day. It helped me to stay caught up and also give the washer a break I do recommend this for small families or single people. Other wise your water and electric bill is going to be high as hell. If you have a big family And your going to really over work the washer The detergent and fabric softer dispenser is useless and some times the water doesn't even flush the liquid like it should. You better off pouring your detergent and then coming back and pour your fabric softener directly into the wash water to make sure the products are getting on your clothes. ***************************************************** Onto the pros Very convenient being able to do laundry in my house . And not have to drive to the laundry mat Washer cleaned my clothes very well . I was able to wash all my clothes and rags and towels . Only thing I couldn't fit in here was my king size comforter which I went to the laundry mat for . Very quiet not loud at all ******************************************************** But as you can see the cons out weigh the pros. I won't be buying again . If I need something on the fly I'll hand wash it and put it In my magic chef portable dryer which I've had almost a year. Lasted way longer than this peice of crap washer. Other than that I just go to the laundry mat As painful as the 20 minute drive and hauling everything back and forth . I'm lucky it's just me and my boyfriend and no kids and I have a routine of making my clothes stretch so I only have to go to the laundry mat once a week now. But it's better than risking my bathroom flooding . This washer is not to be trusted . BUYERS BEWARE . ... show more

  • Inexpensive portable washer...
Style: Amber Yellow
Positive: - Decent sized loads. I mean, what it took 2 loads to do in a full-size washer, I can usually get into about 3 in this machine. - The spin cycle is actually worth a damn: it will actually get things to a mostly dry state. That's important if you're going to be putting the items into a portable dryer later. - It gets our clothes clean without too much trouble. Negative: - As other reviewers have mentioned, the handles for moving it are awkwardly placed. - The drain hose needs to be secured into place somehow; nothing is included for this. - It doesn't drain completely when cycles are complete, and there's not a good place to put the drain hose so that rinse water doesn't end up all over the floor except back into the tub - but since the drain hose is corrugated plastic, it gets kinks easily, and it doesn't look like there's an easy way to change this. - The cycle alarm is *loud*. It competes with smoke alarms for loudness, and continues beeping loudly until you do something about it. There's also no way to turn this down without tearing down the machine. - The machine itself has a faint oil smell; I expect this will fade over time as it gets used more often. ... show more
