  • What a great pocket camera and more
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
When I saw this Panasonic camera on Amazon for what I thought was a great price I new it was one to buy. It is small; has a great zoom lens (a Leica); easy to operate; and has a very good hand grip/and thumb rest. It also records video in 4K as well as HD. I could take pictures of distant objects that I could barely see with my own eyes and the photos came out very clear and fully recognizable. The photos are sharp, and the videos because of image stabilization are very smooth and non-jerky. Also, there actually is an electronic viewfinder in addition to the screen which is most helpful when lighting conditions are very bright outside. The viewfinder is excellent since you can set it to your eyes and kicks in automatically when you look into it. There are dozens of features for the amateur as well as the professional photographer such as shooting raw and many tweaking capabilities. I love this pocket camera---a must have for anyone from amateur to professional (probably more as a backup camera). If you need a pop out screen the next model ZS70 for $50 dollars more at the time I bought this one may be for you or more specifically for you tube creators though there is no additional audio input. You can't go wrong with this camera and Panasonic actually gave me an extended warranty for 3 years which wasn't described in the Amazon description. You also can't go wrong with an extended warranty through amazon if need be. I thought shooting video and pictures on my Samsung phone or for more extreme contexts with my GoPro---but this camera makes it a lot easier and even better for everyday photos and special trips or events. ... show more

  • simple, fun camera
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
I really like this camera! I know it's a bit older and refurbished. The usual complaints are that the sensor is too small to take dark photos; I would argue that it's entirely possible, and they even look pretty good, if you learn how to use the manual settings for things like photographing in the dark. There's a tiny learning curve on the manual settings (I'm very used to the menu settings etc. on my Olympus digital cameras, and half of the work of learning how to use a camera is getting used to the new interface) but I learned them and could use them in about an hour. It takes lovely photos if you sit down and learn to use it beyond the auto features. ... show more

  • Great Pocket Camera for Travel
Color: Black Style: ZS60K
[Update 9/25/2017] After using the ZS60 for a few thousand shots, I have some additional comments. I like the long zoom, the RAW format, the viewfinder and the fact that I can put it in my pocket. But it just has too much noise under lower light conditions. In bright sunlight it's great but as soon as you get in a lower light situation, the picture comes out speckled, especially if you crop it at all. And by lower light, I mean something like inside a church with light coming in through the windows. I'll go looking for another camera that meets my needs for long zoom, RAW, viewfinder and pocket size and with better low light performance. Maybe it doesn't exist [Later update] I think what's happening is that the imager is small so not a lot of light falls on it. Then, when you zoom a bit, the f-stop gets fairly high which reduces the amount of light coming through the lens. To compensate, the camera has to increase the ISO which leads to a grainy image. I have the Panasonic FZ300, which has the same size imager, but the lens is f2.8 for the full zoom range. With that f-stop, enough light gets to the imager and they don't have to increase the ISO so much - so the images are not so grainy. I bought the ZS100, which has a one inch imager so I'll see if that does better. The ZS100 has a viewfinder, RAW and it fits in my pocket but it only has a 250mm lens equivalent. I think I can do everything I want with that much zoom. [end of update] I bought this Panasonic ZS60 because I wanted a pocket camera with a viewfinder. I had been using a Canon PowerShot SX720HS which produced good pictures but lacked the viewfinder and a panoramic function. So far, I'm pleased with the Panasonic ZS60. I also have the Panasonic FZ300 and the ZS60 has almost the same menu options so it was easy to pick up the ZS60 and feel comfortable with it. I use the pictures in a travel blog so the quality is fine for my use. I really wanted a camera that I could put in my pocket - the FZ300 is just too big for travel use. I have to have it around my neck and it's too easy to have it hit something and damage it. I looked at the ZS70 before purchasing the ZS60. The extra features in the ZS70 - mainly the ability to swing the LCD upward for a selfie - weren't of any value to me and the ZS60 was quite a bit less expensive. I wanted a long zoom for travel and the ZS60's zoom is adequate for my needs. The Canon SX720 has a longer zoom but beyond a certain range you just can't hand hold a good picture. All-in-all, the Panasonic ZS60 meets my needs for a decent price. ... show more
