  • Great ideas
Overall the book is very good. There are several techniques I have never used before but can not wait to try. I wish that for newer watercolorists it had more info on the colors used in glaze order. Pictures are detailed.

  • Advice for every artist
One of the fundamentals of art! Claudia’s books themselves are works of art but she always gives very well written and thought out advice that I have found to be precise every time. Her books have improved my works for sure!

  • Get the printed version
I first bought this as an ebook and loved the content but found the ebook resolution just wasn't cutting it, even zoomed in it was hard to make out detail. So, I ordered the hardcover. Good move. Not only can I see detail clearly, there is additional content not found in the ebook. If you're considering buying this book, I would highly suggest you get a printed version. Ebooks are great for reading but this is the second time I've found the resolution is just too poor for this type of material. I didn't learn the first time but I won't make that mistake again. ... show more

  • My Mother, great artist, loves it!
Got this for my Mother for her birthday. She has quite a collection of Claudia Nice's books. She's thrilled about this one, and this is a good thing because we've been trying to encourage her to get back to painting. (Her health has stymied her a bit, but she's recovered and is eager to get back to some good living). I'm not an artist. I can barely draw a smiley face, but I really like the images in this book. The buildings are unique with rich detail. I envy artists, because they can create these images right there in their own studios. Back when I used to do a little photography, well, obviously I had to go somewhere to get something. And at times that took days of driving. I wonder if it's too late for me to learn to paint??? ... show more

  • Love this book
This has become my bible for pen & watercolor. I love painting architecture and this book has gotten me to take on some projects that I might have overlooked because of the textures. She's a wonderful artist and illustrator.

  • Nice art book
Claudia Nice has written some nice art books mainly dealing with pen and ink, watercolor and sketching in pencil. I have used her books as guides for my art students. I like this book a lot but was not thrilled with the color overlays on some of the artwork. it is a little too much and to some degree, obliterates the fine detail that Nice is known for. I wish the colors were lighter. I would recommend this to anyone who teaches art or for those who are self starters and want a nice reference to aid them in pen and ink drawing. ... show more

  • Happy with book
Love Claudia Nice's books. I ordered a used copy so it comes with old smells, not bad smells but used and loved a long time smells.

  • Great techniques
More than any other book I have read by Claudia Nice, this book has so many useful techniques that should make it useful for artists on just about any level! The book is specifically about drawing weather buildings and you will find that most of the illustrations deals with old wood, metal and brick, but the techniques introduced are incredibly useful for a lot of other subjects where you want a rough "organic" texture. Even if you don't like the traditional very contrasty look of pen and ink with watercolor, I would recommend reading this book for it's general discussions of texture and it's samples of ink work using grey and sepia inks. ... show more
