I have several books on watercolor now and this is HANDS DOWN the best one I’ve ever seen! Simple to implement the techniques, great pics and covers everything I wanted to know. I think it would be good for every level since it covers color, paint strokes, paper, perspective, shading, all sorts of tips and tricks. Normally it’s harder for me to learn from books for this type of thing since it can be hard to put into words how to make water and paint flow etc. I typically learn better with live demos. But this really works!!! She must be an excellent teacher in person. I love it! ... show more

I bought this book "used" from Amazon and it came quickly and was in pristine condition for being a used book. The book is filled with lots of information on creating texture in your paintings of buildings using pen, ink, and watercolor. There are lots of pictures, giving great examples.     • Great techniques
Format: Paperback
More than any other book I have read by Claudia Nice, this book has so many useful techniques that should make it useful for artists on just about any level! The book is specifically about drawing weather buildings and you will find that most of the illustrations deals with old wood, metal and brick, but the techniques introduced are incredibly useful for a lot of other subjects where you want a rough "organic" texture. Even if you don't like the traditional very contrasty look of pen and ink with watercolor, I would recommend reading this book for it's general discussions of texture and it's samples of ink work using grey and sepia inks. ... show more

This book has been very helpful. Good for a beginning painter. Lots of good information and advice. I love the buildings she has included and the helpful instructions about using pen and ink as well as watercolor.

With detailed instructions and excellent examples, this books contains numerous methods of creating realistic surface textures. This has become my bible for pen & watercolor. I love painting architecture and this book has gotten me to take on some projects that I might have overlooked because of the textures. She's a wonderful artist and illustrator.
