I hooked everything up and turned on the compressor. I adjusted the pressure to about 40 PSI and depressed the trigger. The pressure held at about 20 PSI. Great. So I started airbrushing a few items. The compressor would cycle as the pressure dropped while in use. After about 10 minutes I noticed that no liquid was coming out of the nozzle. I checked the pressure and it was at 0. At that point the maximum pressure the compressor would get to was about 8 PSI and it would NOT cycle. It just urns continuously. I removed the airbrush line and plugged the compressor output to be sure there was not a leak in the line. Nope. Max pressure is 8PSI and immediately drops to 0 once the trigger is depressed. I intentionally bought this brand so I wouldn't have this type of problem. Out of the 10 reviews for the system there's another one with an immediate failure. 2 out of 10 is NOT a good record. Unfortunately after unboxing and setting up today after waiting for some pieces to get back from being blasted... it doesnt work!! the second it was plugged init turned on for a split second and shut right off. No matter what power source or time in between it wont power on again. Just my luck im a few days screwed on trying to return this paper weight as i just past the 30 day mark. Hopefully something gets figured out or its getting tossed ... show more

I should have gone with my instinct and just buy an air brush. I already an air compressor - but felt getting a small one like this would be convenient to use without breaking out the 20 gallon monster. If you are in the market - get a brush then make a bee-line to harbor freight to get yourself a small 5 gallon pancake compressor. ... show more

It was a good purchase for me. I’ve used a couple other air brush machines but this one is conveniently small, quiet and with out oil. With no oil to worry about it is less hassle to transport. It was also the cheapest. I’ve used it a few times w no problems ...there are some container bottles that come w the pkg however that are useless. I believe they are for storing and pouring paints but they are too stiff to squeeze as intended. ... show more

Even though the compressor seems lesser in quality then the airbrush, the system has all of the basic products to get started , and I believe this will work well for its intended purposes.

    • A couple minor problems, but overall worth it

Paasche 500D Compressor: The piston model I received works well. I appreciate the included regulator, and the in-built auto on/off. It's also fairly quiet, or at least not annoyingly loud. My compressor worked for about 20 minutes before producing no more pressure. After a suspected overheat for a few hours, I took the unit apart and found that the motor had mechanically disconnected itself from the compressor piston. Luckily, it just needed to be screwed back on. Pressure was back, and I've had no problems since. During my troubleshooting, I discovered that Paasche seems to have used '500D' to describe several different types of compressors; some of them are diaphragm compressors, so the dissimilarity made it hard to feel confident I'd found information about the right one. Paasche VL Airbrush: This is my first airbrush, but I've been impressed so far. The kit will get you going, but I would recommend additional paint cups, and a cleaning station, as you'll wish you had these almost immediately. I'd also suggest considering replacing the red handle; the included nylon handle is very soft, and makes it very easy to destroy the screw threads when attaching/detaching the handle during cleaning.
