  • Difficult Assembly - House Shaped Bed in White
Size: Twin Color: White With Storage
I bought the house style bed for my daughter in white. I've put together so many pieces of furniture like this that I lost count long ago and I have to say that, while this bed is super cute, getting it together is a major chore. It usually only takes me about 1.5 hours to put together something like this myself, but this took more like 4. You have about a 50% chance that the pre-drilled holes will be where they should be. The other 50% are just off enough that you have to muscle the thing together and can't use a drill to put the right hole in as they would be too close together and make one giant unusable hole. One of the holes and thread casings for the bolts that hold the shelving unit to the bed was just not there at all. Two of my pieces were mislabeled, making the ropes that go across the shelves off-kilter. So, I had to go back a few steps and swap them. The backing that goes across the back of the shelves slides into a groove track, which wasn't lined up correctly because of the misplaced holes I mentioned before. Even when I got the backing to finally go in, it was too long and the vertical end pieces of the shelving unit itself couldn't get to a point of being flush with the horizontal shelf pieces. I couldn't even cut the backing to fit because it also has pre-drilled holes that attach it to the back and those would have been in the wrong place if I had. Forgot to mention that the backing is two pieces that are not attached to each other, so they kept slipping out of place and over each other until I finally got to the step of attaching them. Many of the items you need to screw in place don't have pre-drilled holes for you to use, which makes it very confusing to figure out where pieces should go as the pictures are not clear in any way, shape, or form. Speaking of the instructions, each "step" is actually four or five steps with nothing telling you if there's one that's better to do first or even telling you everything. For example, when I went to put the actual bed portion together, the instructions indicated to bolt one end together, but didn't indicate to bolt the other end together. So, I figured I needed to wait for that until a later step. Nope. It just assumed I would do the same thing to both sides. This happened over and over again. There are also steps that are in an order that doesn't make sense. For example, the blocks of wood that you attach to the bottom of the bed to keep the drawers from going all the way under is one of the last steps. By that time, you have the whole bed together and can't really flip it on it's side to get good access. So, you're under there like a mechanic, with barely any room to work, and this is one of the steps where there are not pre-drilled holes, so you need leverage to create them. Would have been a lot better to just attach those blocks to that slat before attaching that rail to the bed. Ultimately, my daughter loves the bed and it's sturdy enough, even with all the issues, that I feel comfortable letting her sleep in it. So, the price is worth it, but put aside a significant chunk of time to troubleshoot issues with the pre-fabrication. ... show more
