Great quality and matches the most expensive wooden spoons I've seen selling on the net. I use this one allot, espeically when I'm carmalizing tomatoe paste for my spaghettie sauce. Thanks for making it available on Amazon! What a great price for such quality! Update 4-25-2011: Well this spoon has traveled its way through lots of spaghetti sauce pans, casseroles and so much more, while enduring countless washings in soap and water. I even use it in my distiller machine, which I bought on Amazon.com, when I make my home made distilled water. It's great after you pour in the the minerals used to "de-glaze" the stainless steal container. The deglazing minerals do no harm to the wooden spanner, nor are they toxic. But this spanner can easily reach the flat part of the stainless steal bottom and unstick all the accumulated minerals left behind by the city water from doing a week's worth of distilling of my city water for drinking here in Los Angeles. All I can say is that after four years, I don't think this spoon is ever going to wear out! I keep it in a stainless steal canister on my kitchen counter top along with the wooden hammer and other wooden utensils I bought like this one and for over four years, I sure have gotten value for my money. This spoon should be wearing a cape and cowl given how well it has stood up to such a grueling four year trial in my kitchen!

Handle's a little thick! Might fatigue those with smaller hands if used to stir risotto. HAND-WASH ONLY! Unlike my thinner olive wood spatula, this *WILL* split in the dishwasher. Yes, I put them both in the dishwasher. This is crime. But I had to know. Takeaway: pleasantly thick-handled spatula that needs to be washed by hand and should probably be oiled once in a while.

This spatula is well made. It is durable, and can handle general daily kitchen use. I would recommend this spatula for anyone looking for a thicker durable, all around spatula. Can be used for stirring, mixing, or as a spatula. Not so good at flipping pancakes (it's thick). Good at most other things. Solid construction, durable, and solid wood.

Nicely made, did need a little attention before use

Nice quality. There is no finish on this when it arrived (i did not expect it to have one) and it was a little rough too. I sanded it a little bit and applied a few coats of mineral oil to it before washing or using it. From time to time I reapply mineral oil jus like caring for a butcher block cutting board. It would be nicer if it were a little thinner, but that may also make it fragile. It's not ideal for uses where a thin turner or spatula is needed but it otherwise it works well. Nice that it's non-stick friendly and easy to take care of (don't leave it soaking or put it in the dishwasher). The more use it gets the better it works. It is a nice in between of metal and plastic utensils.

Frankly, I was surprised at this wooden turner, as it does a masterful job of flipping pancakes, eggs, and burgers on our stove. Much Better than Calphalon Version

I used this for over a year without issue before it was time to replace. In contrast, the one I got from Calphalon to replace it with (Calphalon Wood All Purpose Turner) lasted a mere two months before it was cracking and the handle very sharply coming apart and splintering. After trying both, I liked this one MUCH better. That said, as with all wooden implements, bowls, and cutting boards for the kitchen you should treat the wood regularly (I guess this is how I got so much use out of this even though I ran it through the dishwasher almost daily). The best and most reasonable product to do this with is food grade mineral oil which you can find in a large pharmacy (I think I got mine in the pharmacy at Target after asking the pharmacist where to find it). Just wet it, rub it in thoroughly, paper towel off any excess, and set aside to "dry" (let the oil soak into the wood to protect it). I honestly don't think I did this more than once and this lasted over a year after that. Calphalon, not so much.

UPDATE: PRODUCT DESIGN HAS CHANGED!!! I am the person who wrote this review. The product has been changed. It is now thinner and slightly smaller and the wide part is now angled more like a turner. I'm sure that it is now better as a turner, but it is not the terrific stirrer that I have long considered my best kitchen tool for soups, chili and other stir-fries. (I just bought six of them to give as gifts.... aaarghh!!) Original review: _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ First things first... this is NOT a turner. It would be useless for that. The product is misnamed. What it does better than anything else I've ever had is stirring up kind of saute pan dinners or soups or chili or stews that start with chopped vegetables like onions, peppers and chopped cabbage, zucchini etc. The flat bottom edge gives you a good clean sweep across the bottom of the pan. (I never could understand how the pointy tip of a wooden spoon was supposed to be useful for this). It also lets you easily break up clumps of meat and scrape up anything that's gotten stuck on the bottom. I've tried every version of this shape of utensil that I could find. This one is the very best because it's strong enough to handle heavy stirring and the handle is big enough to be comfortable. (The little bamboo ones don't feel good in the hand and are too dainty for soup pots IMHO) I've had mine for at least a few years. It has not cracked, although the edge has chipped a bit. I hand wash it, but sometimes it gets left in the sink or in a soaking pot and it has survived just fine. If I hadn't accidentally burned the handle, I wouldn't have had to search high and low for a replacement. I'm glad that I can still get this one.
