I bought two hawthorn strainers and ended up returning this one. I really liked it because it was compact and easy to use. However, the coils are just too far apart to filter out the pulp effectively. If one is just using it to filter out ice then it would be perfect.     • Great tool but loose coil requires an alternative strainer for certain drinks
I love this strainer and have used it for 5 years at this point... (How is that for durability!). I am happy to double strain 95% of cocktails with a secondary tea strainer or similar fine mesh. However, I think I am finally moving to the camp that for egg drinks, a fine coil is required for the job . What does that mean? Well, if you are just setting up a home bar, this is a great option! However, if you plan to make a lot of whiskey sours or drinks with egg whites, I think you will be better served by a strainer with a tighter coil. Alternatively, you can also steal the spring from another strainer and double coil onto this one. ... show more

    • Cool shape/size but no way to hang it!!
Cmon... there's no way to hang this up (like any other Hawthorne out there). The stainless body is obviously stamped, it would have cost literally nothing more to include a small hanging hole in the handle. Because the handle is so short, you also cannot leave it in a cup or shaker tin for storage/to dry. Kinda a big oversight in my book, this product spends the overwhelming majority of it's life stored at an arms length waiting to be used for 10 seconds of straining (which it does just fine at), I can't believe nobody considered HOW it would be stored... I assume whoever designed this doesn't use one at home, and/or has never worked behind a bar before! ... show more
