Description

The Outward Hound Granby Dog Life Jacket is a high-performance dog flotation device for boating, water sports, the beach, the pool, and other water adventures with dogs. A front neck float adds extra support to help them keep their head above water. Top grab handles provide an easy way to retrieve your dog in an emergency. Adjustable straps keep them secure both in and out of water. For small dogs, sizes XS and small come with one top handle, and for larger dogs, sizes medium - XL come with dual rescue handles. Since dogs come in various shapes and sizes, please select the appropriate dog life jacket size after taking your dog's girth measurement along the widest part of your dog's rib cage. Make sure to take any other unique traits (i.e., large shoulders, long torso) into consideration. The Granby dog life vest is available in multiple colors to fit your dog's personality! Hand wash with warm water and mild soap. Air dry. SAFETY AND CARE: This is a flotation aid intended for use on a conscious dog in calm waters. Use rescue handle to lift dogs in emergencies only. It’s difficult to fine one that will fit our dog (she has a “barrel chest”), but this fits perfectly and she can easily move about without restriction. My 11 yo rescue Australian Shepherd with arthritis in his back hips is learning to swim and isn't loving it (yet!) I ordered a Large jacket and it fits perfectly! He is 65 lbs, chest girth 31", neck circumference 18" (base) and 16" (top), withers (shoulder height) 23", torso (back length) 22". I want to start with the awesome price for this life jacket! We have tried popular brands that are 2 and 3 times the cost of this one that didn't make me even half as happy. I love this vest...which I purchased myself and have not received any incentive or request for this review. This jacket does a pretty good job of keeping him horizontal in the water - if he gets to paddling really hard with his front paws, his backend does sink a bit, but his head never goes under. I really appreciate the fabric that velcros under his belly. It accomplishes two things: it keeps the jacket snug on him so he is not able to slip or squirm out of the jacket when I'm holding it by the handles (like he can from one of the expensive, popular brands), and it also keeps the straps from pulling and rubbing on his stomach. I feel like the fabric distributes the force of the straps a bit. He has a lot of fur that wants to get tucked into the velcro, but I'm getting better at smoothing his fur as I wrap him. It's worth the little bit of extra effort. The handles seem really sturdy so far - I use them to help get him into the water, and when he's in the water, I use the back one to lift his rear if he starts getting panicky when he's not perfectly horizontal (it calms him pretty quickly). The color/pattern is not only cute, I can spot him instantly in the water. (I haven't included a photo of him in the water because, so far, I am always in the water with him.) The only thing I would change (and it's really not that big of a deal) is that I would want the jacket to be an inch or two longer along his back. ... show more

Bought 2 (orange and yellow), both large, for our 2 Golden’s who are relatively the same size (we measured both of them and ordered sizes per product description). The elastic Velcro chest strap was more than 2 inches shorter on each side on the orange one and did not fit appropriately. The yellow fit perfectly. We didn’t realize the size discrepancy until we went to use them and the orange one didn’t fit properly - Velcro strap was too tight and wouldn’t hold. The actual flotation portion and clip straps were identical on both (photo shows them slightly offset). Otherwise they worked great and seem like good quality. The dogs didn’t mind them at all, they were able to swim much longer without exhaustion, and there was no choking on water. Wish we had gotten them much sooner. Will be returning the orange one and ordering another yellow with hopefully the correct size Velcro strap. ... show more

"Dawson" model swim jacket is my fav and my 2 dogs. My small dogs hates wearing anything and she always happily puts this on, and she's not even much of water lover but this is comfortable based on my observation of it's construction and my little ones behavior. I think this is a good vest for beginners or not strong swimmers, and also active swimmers since the style has no material around front legs so it allows for more comfortable range of motion as well. CON = getting the right fit. I had to size down for both my dog's measurements vs the size chart so maybe others need to also. My smaller dog is a solid 17" rib cage girth (all her clothes and harnesses are for 17") and I re-measured her when I ordered this but she fits in XS for this product with the straps almost as short as they go. Odd as XS says the biggest girth is 15" yet the S was still too loose by a couple inches with all straps as short as possible. Likewise my other dog actually fits a M, yet size chart indicated she'd be a L but it was far too big. PROS = *This life vest has excellent boyancy but is not bulky. *It is easy to adjust the straps and then just take off and on by the 3 clips. *It is very secure under the belly and for the chin/chest when it is the right fit for your dogs body type. And the front under chin material is not obnoxiously bulky like other models. *No Velcro! which my dogs hate the sound of and velcro sucks with sand and hair obviously. *The quick grab handle runs vertical with the spine which doesn't create much water resistance as others that have a strap across body left to right. *No chaffing around front legs because there is no material or extra sand to rub near the armpits because of the open front style that doesn't go down & under the center chest and between the front legs. My dog is not a fan but it does the job. She’s a Portuguese water dog and weighs 145 and I believe we ordered a large and it fit perfectly. Very durable, stable and easy to adjust for the most part. Happy with our purchase, we use it mostly for when she goes in the pool.
