    • Seat is not "woven"
For looks and comfort I would give this chair 5 stars but I have serious questions about its durability and also a problem with the assembly. The chair is described as handwoven rattan but only the back is woven. The sides are strands of rattan that wrap around the frame of the sides from top to bottom and back again. OK for the sides but the seat is also not woven. It consists of what appears to be one very long strand of rattan that goes from side to side, wraps around the frame and returns to the other side and back again and again. There are no strands that go from back to front and interweave with the ones going from side to side. So you are sitting on strands of rattan, not a solid surface. Without the cushion I doubt you could use the chair. I also worry that if one strand breaks the entire seat would fail since it appears the strands are not separate but one long one. As for assembly, it is not too bad (1 hour each chair) except for the first 4 screws that attach the sides to the back. Instead of having the screw go from the back into the side you have to go from the side into the back . This requires you to thread the screw sideways through the rattan strands and makes it difficult to use the Allen wrench they provide to screw the screw into the back. After each quarter turn or so you have to reposition the wrench since the rattan strands are in the way. Not impossible but awkward, frustrating, and time consuming. So top marks for comfort and looks but demerits for assembly and the questionable design of the seat. Price was reasonable on sale, and delivery was prompt and without any damage. My concerns about the durability of the seat are strong enough that I probably would not buy it again. Update: The seller reached out to me and offered to accept a return for a full refund. I opted to accept their alternative offer of a 20% partial refund and keep the chairs. While I am still concerned about the "stringy seat", I am impressed with the seller's customer service and would be willing to buy from them again. ... show more
