  • Go Long and Wide
Color: Blue (Center Zip Size: LongWide (15°F)
I purchased the Long Wide 15 version and had an opportunity to take it to the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado during October of 2020. Overall, I am generally pleased with the product. It is not ultralight by any means, I think the version I have is somewhere between 3 and 4 lbs and compresses to about a basketball size. I have difficulty trying to get it inside my Zulu 35, and have to struggle to work it towards the bottom just to give you an idea. The compression sack is nice and you don't really have to fight the bag to get it inside, and can wrap things up if you get caught in a jam in a hurry. I think some areas where the product fell short for me were the quality of the manufacturing. There are loose strings on the outside of the bag when where it was stitched. The zipper often does get stuck and even fell off once. Each time I use the bag, I find small feathers and stuffing material on my person after getting out. This is somewhat worrisome, as I've only gotten to test out the bag for a week; so I don't know how durable it is and cannot comment on that so far. I am 5'11" and 170lbs and chose to get the "Long/Wide" version from reading other reviews that it was pretty snug, and I find it difficulty to imagine that anyone much taller than me would be comfortable sleeping in the "Long/Wide - 15 degree" version. The hood is pretty useless, it is quite small and unless you got a turtle head plan on bringing a beanie or something as well. I did not get to test it out in lower than 35 degrees, but the bag does feel quite warm and the shoulder baffles really make quite the difference. This bag is actually properly rated, and could provide comfort at below freezing temperatures. I purchased the Outdoor Vitals Long/Wide sleeping pad in combination with this bag. The bag's measurements are aligned with the pad. My only complaint is that there should be some fusing of each other, by attaching some clips/buttons or even crazy person straps to keep you from sliding off the pad. It would be nice to attach both products together, in case you are sleeping on an angle. I had tremendous difficulty one night and swore to myself I will never sleep on an angle again with this bag/pad combination. Overall I really like the Outdoor Vitals company, and would like to see the business succeed. The two products I have purchased from the company come with a Lifetime Warranty on the craftsmanship. This is good to know and reassuring, hopefully I never have to use it. I do have to mention though, that as I did further research into the company I could not find any official phone number for customer service. No phone number and the address provided on their website belongs to a storage unit facility in the middle of nowhere Utah. This part is not really reassuring to me, since lifetime warranties are not slung out of storage facilities; rather than established businesses with reputable brick and mortar locations. For this reason I decided to purchase my order through Amazon, since I've been told by a rep through Amazon that any product warranties offered on their platform are backed up by Amazon as well. Hopefully Outdoor Vitals stays in business, but with today's economy you never know. ... show more

  • It’s ok, but …
Color: Black ( Center Zip) Size: LongWide (-15°F)
I bought the -15° long/wide sleeping bag, at my height about 6’ this is the proper size. It’s OK, but there are some flaws. I’ve used the sleeping bag with temperatures dipping into the low 30s, after using it for some legitimate winter camping trips I may update my review. First of all, be aware this bag is manufactured in China. In my experiences so far, I don’t see the sleeping bag being effective anywhere below about 15°F. Barely dipping below freezing temperature, in the Sangre de Cristo mountains, it was adequate. So the claim that the rating should hold true within 5° is questionable in my opinion. After the first use, some of the stitching started to fray and pop out, and some of the fill was coming out at two seams also, albeit very small amounts, this should not be happening with a sleeping bag that costs about $300 and if necessary I will contact the company regarding their lifetime warranty after I use it a few more times. My sleeping bag arrived compressed, in a generic plastic bag, stuffed into a shipping box, which was bulging on every side and taped closed. It appeared to have been stored this way for some time, which is exactly how cold-weather sleeping bags are not supposed to be stored, which may be a contributing factor to the true effectiveness (or lack thereof) at low temperatures. The included compression stuff sack (also from China) is basically cheap $&#%, the first time I used it one of the straps came off. I contacted the company and their CS responded with a typical cordial response quick to point out that the stuff sack is not included in the warranty, and while they no longer have any of the compression stuff sacks available, they did send me one of their rollable dry-bag styles as a replacement and were quick to do so. I’ve used other cold weather sleeping bags from more known companies and have always found them to not quite meet the actual rating, so this was somewhat expected. I always plan on carrying a fleece liner for cold-weather camping, and with one this sleeping bag should perform OK. ... show more

  • Go Long.
Color: Blue (Center Zip Size: Regular (15°F)
I got the regular length and I am 5'10", wish I got the long instead because my toes are pressing against the bottom (cuz while you sleep, your toes are not at a 90 degree angle like they are when measuring your height) while my head is jammed in the hood. Yes the regular can fit up to 6', but if you're over 5'8" I would consider getting the long. Picked this up for a trip expecting low 20's, change of plans rerouted us to another area with ~45-50 at night. Slept plenty warm in just leggings and t-shirt, on the third night ended up flipping it over to use like a top quilt (which worked really well with their unique zipper placement). PROs: very light weight, compresses down very nicely, one of the best bags on the market when factoring in weight/compression volume, warmth and cost (seriously made a spreadsheet of dozens of bags comparing/ranking each detail), space inside feels a bit roomier than other bags which is nice. CONs: not really a fan of the extra flaps on the inside to keep the cold air out, they seem to get in the way a lot (I think it would be better if it were a sewn in tube shape instead); their anti-snag zipper design still does snag (so not sure what the difference really is); velcro to hold the two sides together seems a bit too clingy not wanting to let go unless you pull hard (leery of doing this when attached to such thin fabric); the quality of the velcro and draw string are very cheap (great quality bag shouldn't skip on good quality string or velcro). ... show more
