  • Great Sun Hat
Size: Small Color: Sand
This hat is exactly what I wanted - wide brim, adjustable, chin strap for windy days. The hat is very well made & comes in many fashionable colors. Its a bit pricey, but worth it!

  • Comparison of the Oasis Sombrero to Columbia Sun Goddess Booney (for nit picky folks like me)
Size: Medium Color: Pool
I own the Columbia Sun Goddess Booney Hat, which I LOVE and was looking for something equally awesome but a bit prettier. Both hats are easily 4-1/2 to 5 star hats and you can't go wrong with either. So, if you are deciding between the two or looking for a way to compare this hat to another hat, I hope this review helps with the nit picky details. (I purchased "pool" which is exactly the pretty shade of aqua in the picture.) Size: The OR Oasis runs a bit larger than most Medium hats. This is ok because the drawstring can easily be cinched for perfect fit and the slight extra room makes it easier to accommodate a tucked in ear or ponytail. But for a hat that comes in so many sizes, I expected a closer fit. I measured my head before purchasing and looked up the size chart, and it said I should get medium. I also wear medium in official MLB caps. The (Sun Goddess) Booney is a one size and fits like a typical medium. Sun coverage: the OR Oasis has an extra 3/4 inch all around the brim over the Booney hat and is UPF 50 vs. UPF 40. However, my blinding white Irish heritage skin seems adequately protected by the Booney hat, so the UPF difference is negligible. I suspect the difference is solely due to the Booney hat being a much thinner material on the cap of the hat, so if you have no hair or thin hair, you may notice a difference. The larger brim on the OR Oasis obviously shades a slightly greater area, which would put it ahead of the Booney if UPF was your only concern. Style: the OR Oasis is hands down prettier. The toggles are much more minimilistic, the fabric has a finer look and the slightly wider brim & stiffer brim, I personally think looks more balanced and polished. What I didn't see in the pictures were the pretty tone on tone flowers on the underside of the brim. Don't get me wrong, they are both techie style hats but the OR pulls off the look with a touch more grace. If you are very petite, the OR hat just might feel a bit overly large but it still wins on style points. Wind: both hats perform equally well in the wind but I feel the wind a teensy touch more with the OR Oasis hat. Visibility: You notice the OR oasis much more in your view. I'm constantly reminded I am wearing a hat when I open my eyes. It doesn't really impact your visibility, I just feel like my brain keeps reminding me I'm wearing a hat. Hot weather: the Booney hat is super breathable and light as a feather. I forget this hat is on. The OR Oasis is also very light but not as much as the Columbia Booney. It's probably lighter than any other hat you can find except the Booney. Travel: the brims on both hats have a nice soft yet stiff foam to keep the brim from flapping in your face. The brim on the OR hat is stiffer, it would pack flat but take up a giant oval footprint. I would be afraid to fold the OR hat. The brim on the Columbia hat is slightly more flexible: I can fold it and easily reshape it making it easy to compact into a purse. So why keep both? Here's where I'll wear each hat: OR Oasis: at the pool or beach. At sporting events. For day trips where I know I will spend the most of the day outside. For light yard work & fussing in the garden. As my general go-to sun shade hat. Columbia Booney: for travel - especially travel to hot climates, for day trips where I am more likely to be taking the hat on and off. When I'm doing yard work that will make me hot & sweaty (like mowing in the summer or doing heavy digging/moving dirt. When I'm wearing something that clashes like crazy with the pool blue - which will be hard because it brings out the blue in my eyes. (My Booney hat is sandstone, or whatever name they call something that should be sandstone). I might pull out either hat for hiking (day trips only) depending on my mood. ... show more

  • My Best Hat
Size: Large Color: Sand
This is my favorite hat I've ever had. I usually get a cheaper hat every season and wear them out. I have lupus and flare if I don't have adequate sun protection but I like to be outdoors, so I've experimented with different kinds of hats and found a few factors that were important to me. 1. Durable material. Most important because I toss my hat all over the car, sometimes under other gear. This hat can be crushed and pop back no problem, the rim is of a nicer foam than I expected! The material and stitching on this hat are just beautiful. They are rugged but elegant enough. The directions say you can wash in the machine on cold, air dry only. I would rather wash by hand anyway though. 2. Lightweight and comfortable. The material on this hat is sturdy, but the design makes this a very light hat. It feels effortless on my head. Better than thickly woven floppy straw hats. The Large is 23.5" (found info in their own website) and it fits my 23" head like it was made for me. I have thick hair too. You can adjust the tightness a little bit with a small string on the back of the cap, but they are true to size I think, at least! 3. Looks non-dorky. My expectations here aren't too picky, but just to put it in perspective, I've had this hat on my wish list for a year before I got it - I love how it looks and it exceeded my wishes. The material is beautiful and feels so pleasant. The print on the bottom of the brim adds a bit of uniqueness. But if you take a close look at the cap, it's a very simple, beautiful pattern. And the brim is slightly oval, not circular, which I think looks nice in person versus all my previous hats which were round. 4. Of course, Sun Protection. This hat has 50UPF, right? Either way, it covers enough! The cord is a nice addition, I don't mind it after I saw how nicely it was attached and unobtrusive it is, plus useful to hang your hat off things if necessary. I would love one of these in every color, but the lightest, Sand, is the one I chose and I think it's lovely. Get this hat, or the one with the vent and rain cover! ;) UPDATE: I wrote this review 4 years ago when I only had the hat for a short period of time. It's 2019 now, and I think it's time to make a note about how it's held up through the years. This is still the finest sun hat I've ever had! I wear it on every sunny day when I go outside, and it still looks brand new. I have only washed it once, in the laundry machine + air dry, and it held up perfectly. It repels a lot of moisture, it keeps me relatively dry in the rain although it is not advertised for such a use, and my dogs have accidentally trampled it with muddy feet and have left no marks, it stays pretty clean for a light colored hat. I LOVE THIS HAT!!! I recommend it to anyone who needs a fantastic piece of sun protection. ... show more

  • replaced same OR hat
Size: Small Color: Sand
I bought my original yrs ago but wore it out to the point of fraying. This fabric is thicker and holds cap shape well. I was disappointed that the underbrim did not have the floral embossment. The brim is thicker and can't not fold into quarters as my last one could.

  • I really like this hat: it packs flat in a suitcase and it provides great sun protection!
Size: Large Color: White
I ordered this hat for my upcoming Christmas cruise in the Caribbean. Having recently had basal cell cancer on my face I wanted full protection from the sun. This hat worked perfectly. I read to have a light colored hat with a dark lining inside and under the brim to minimize reflection from sunlight. It worked perfectly. I don’t sun bathe but I do walk around in the sun. It was hot in Mexico and Belize but my face was totally protected. I don’t typically use the ties but when the wind almost blew my hat off I quickly put the ties to good use. The hat is nice and light so your head does not feel hot and sweaty. I highly recommend this hat and a good sunscreen if you want full protection from the sun. ... show more
