Update: Now that I am about 36 hours into using this case I can confirm that it is still working well with all of my official Apple MagSafe chargers. :-) While obviously the texture of the case didn’t change it does now feel a lot more natural in the hand. I would however only rate the actual “Grip” (pop socket like feature) as mediocre. I am still impressed that it is there and works and still allows MagSafe to work consistently. But finding a design with a little better grip and one that allows use as a kickstand also would be MUCH better. I am raising the review from 4 to 5 stars but I really think it is a 4.5 and that is slightly weighted based off of the limited merits of currently available cases. ******************* It is still very early as I have had this case less than 12 hours at the writing of this review. First…. This is the first case with a finger grip mechanism I have tried that so far actually seems to work and work well with MagSafe. And I have tried several that claimed they did. This one works at my desk and in my car (yes I retro-fited an official Apple MagSafe into me car) and it worked seemingly great last night by the bed. This is where most of them seem to fail as somewhere during the night the charging would stop, but this did not happen with this case. Yay. The magnet is much stronger than my other OtterBox case (figura). :-). I have had other cases with stronger magnets but they didn’t always work well with MagSafe The color seems dead on. You will likely either like it or not but it is the color they show. ;-) The grip while not as nice on the fingers as a pop socket is decent and works with MagSafe. As others have said it will not work as a stand. I do wish it would. And the texture. It is slicker than I am used to. Too much so?? Likely that will depend on your personal taste but it is a lot more slick than my figura OtterBox which I have seen get a lot of comments for being too slick. I am for now keeping this case but that may or may not change in the next day or two. ... show more

    • Poor substitute for Otter + Pop Symmetry case (UPDATED)

On my old iPhone 12, I used and was extremely satisfied with the OtterBox Symmetry case with integrated PopSocket technology. That case style is not available for iPhone 15 and I don’t know if/when it will be available. (I’m suspecting it has something to do with MagSafe, but I still plug my phone in the old fashioned way so I don’t care about that feature.) In the meantime, I settled for this knowing it would be different but hoping it would be OK. My expectations were low after reading reviews, but I figured if I end up not liking the grip or the grip breaks, I’d cut it off and put a PopSocket in the recess. After only three hours of use, I already loathe the grip. It is simultaneously too flimsy and too firm. How can it be both those things at once? It’s flimsy in that the grip doesn’t support the weight of the phone at all. Set the phone face-up with the grip still out and the phone clatters down flat as the grip collapses. Try to use the grip as a kickstand and the phone skids down flat as the grip collapses. It’s firm in that the grip’s “straps” are made from harder, slicker plastic than you’d expect for something you’re supposed to handle frequently. I can feel the edges of the straps digging into my fingers as I type this. It’s not pleasant. In addition to being firmly flimsy, I find the grip a bit squirrelly—it rotates when I don’t want it to rotate and then when I don’t want it to rotate, it does. Don’t get me wrong, the case itself appears to be excellent OtterBox phone protection all the way. It’s the built-in grip that’s a no-go for me. If I am going to tolerate this case, I will have to MacGyver it by replacing the built-in grip with a PopSocket. So disappointing. UPDATE: I decided to see how long the flimsy grip lasted without intervention. After less than 5 months of normal use, the grip straps tore away from the rotating mechanism. Not the durability I’m used to from Otterbox. The good news is I had a PopSocket ready and waiting for this day to come. It fits within the recess left by the torn off built-in grip. The PopSocket isn’t flush with the width or depth of the recess but it functions better than the squirrelly grip it’s replacing. I shouldn’t have waited to MacGyver it. But now you know. ... show more

    • Straps broke on the pop out grip after about 6 months

I ordered this back in February and the grip straps have already broken. I had broken my wrist a few weeks earlier and had difficulty holding my phone with that hand so I ordered it since it had a loop I could stick my finger through instead of having to try to grip my pop socket on my old case. It’s a good idea, but not well made on that part. I ended up just pulling the other strap out and adding a pop socket in the indendention. The case itself has kept my phone safe when it’s been dropped on my tile and concrete floors more than a few times, and is much thinner than the old Otterbox case I had on it. Otterbox does have a warranty, but I think a new one would break again, so I’ll just leave it for now. ... show more
