I've long used Apple's silicone cases due to their smooth feel, grip, and slim profile. Over time, my Apple silicone case began falling apart. I've never dropped a cell phone in my lifetime, since the old Nokia bricks to the first iPhone... never. The plastic under the silicone coating was cracking apart. It was time to replace it. I came across the Otterbox Commuter on Amazon. I've long known about Otterbox, but wasn't a fan of bulky cases, regardless of how protective they may be. I now have a toddler in the family, so I figured it would be good to explore better options. I decided to give them a shot (finally) and ordered the Commuter. Install was simple. Install inner part on the phone. Follow up by installing the hard shell on the phone. It's a bit thicker than I'm used to, but nowhere near being TOO thick. It is a bit slicker, though, due to it's hard plastic shell. It will readily slide across a hard surface, where the silicone Apple case prevented this. Does this matter? It's different when picking it up from a hard surface, but that's about it. It's very slightly textured, so hand grip doesn't suffer. ... show more

Overall, I believe that this phone case has proven well-worth it's money. I have used this case for close six months and have no regrets with it. This case is meant for iPhone 7 Plus users who are looking for more protection than the typical "fashion focused" case. It is simple, easy to use, and offers a thick buffer between your phone and anything it could come in contact with. After looking at the durability, usability, and overall appearance of the case, I can confidently recommend this case to others. If you're similar to myself, you often drop your phone, leave it in unknown places, or are just plain clumsy. If this rings a bell for you, this could be your case. While it isn't waterproof, this case can still withstand many drops and falls with only minor scratches and nicks. However, the dark coloring does well at hiding any potential damage you may do. This OtterBox is easy to install and simple to use. The rubber first layer slides easily over the corners of your phone while the hard, plastic, second layer sits firmly overtop. Once the case is on, it stays perfectly in place. There is no need to worry about the case falling off. The rubber sides offer the perfect grip to combat the slick outer layer. This ensures that your phone will not be slipping through your fingers any time soon. The charging port even has a protective rubber guard to guarantee that no objects can get stuck unintentionally. While this case may seem plain to some, it's simplicity pleases others. This sleek, black case can match any outfit you choose. The solid print keeps the focus on you instead of your phone. A little background info: I had a Defender series case on my S6 and my phone was in perfect condition the entire time. I literally dropped that phone a million times a day; many of those times from the top of the stairmaster! It never cracked at all. I recently purchased an IPhone and got the Defender case for it as well since I never had any trouble with it before. It worked just as expected for a while, but eventually it wasnt reading my fingerprint anymore bc of the plastic thats on the case covering it. Although I've always been SUPER hesitant about the Commuter case because it's way less coverage than the Defender, I decided give it a shot. The case LOOKS very nice on my phone since I have the matte black Iphone 7 Plus. It's a whole lot less bulky than the Defender so now I can actually fit it in my back pocket if I absolutely need to. It doesn't come with a screen protector so I went ahead and bought a privacy screen for my phone and that's working well so far. Now that the fingerprint isn't being covered by plastic, the phone is much more responsive. The case FEELS like its not as protective; feels like it will break on the first real drop since it's not rubbery like the Defender. I've now dropped the phone a few times (both times it landed face down on concrete) and I was terrified that my screen would be shattered. It wasn't. (errr, I hope I didn't just jinx myself) I suppose it has provided good protection up until now! There are no scratches, cracks or bends on my phone at this time. The one thing I really don't like about the case is how slippery the grip is. Since its not rubber, its hard to hold without it sliding out of my hand sometimes. Also, if your hands are sweaty, as mine often are, it feels a little gross and greasy to hold. Overall, I recommend the case. It looks good and offers the protection needed without the extreme bulk of the Defender. (when i do rugged activities, i do still switch my phone into the Defender case just incase) ... show more
